Le Verseau- French composer Pierre Ancelin (1934-2001) studied at the conservatories of Aix-en-Provence Marseille and later under Olivier Messiaen at the Paris Conservatoire. His Scrubland is an exciting collection of five pieces for Oboe and Piano. Ancelin is particularly remembered for founding the National Union of Composers of Music along with Jolivet Lesuer and Sauguet. The five pieces in Scrubland are suitable for beginner to intermediate level oboists. Each of the five pieces contain a variety of musical features. For all aspiring oboists Ancelin 's Scrubland is adelightful compilation.

André Jolivet (1905-1974) composed this Concerto for Flute and Strings in 1949. Initially written for Flute and String Orchestra this version contains the scores for the Flute and the Piano and lasts 12 minutes. This strong>Concerto for Flute and Strings is quite unusual as it was only created in two movements each divided into a slow introduction and a fast main part. Used as one of the main pieces of the Geneva music contest Concours de Genève in 2014 this concerto requires advanced skills. André Jolivet is a French composer who was really inspired by theAntiquity and had a strong interest for atonality. He also wrote many chamber music pieces eleven concertos some orchestral and some vocal music.

French composer and teacher Darius Milhaud (1892-1974) was a prolific composer of the 20th century as a member of 'Les Six'. His compositions remain highly regarded Jacob's Dreams being no exception. Milhaud 's compositions are influenced by jazz and polytonality as exemplified in Jacob's Dreams. Composed in 1949 Jacob's Dreams is a dance suite written for Oboe Violin Viola Cello and Double Bass. It is an alternative exciting suite based on the dreams of Jacob in the Bible and made up of five movements; 1) Jacob's Pillow 2) The first dream (the angel's ladder) 3) Prophecy 4) Second dream(fight with the dark angel and benediction) and 5) Israel (Hymn). Milhaud makes use of variation in articulation complex rhythms chromaticism accidentals harmonics altering tempos variation in dynamics and a wide tessitura amongst other aspects. Milhaud 's Jacob's Dream is essential to all advanced ensembles seeking modern and exciting repertoire.
