Voix Moyennes Et Piano-Recueil- Gabriel Pierné (1863-1937) was a French composer conductor and organist. Despite being predominantly remembered as a conductor his Trois Chansons De Métiers remains a recognised piece in the Vocal repertoire. Pierné studied at the Paris Conservatoire before taking up the position of chief conductor for the concert series Concerts Colonne in 1910. He remained in the post until 1933 and during this time he notably conducted the world premiere of Igor Stravinsky's The Firebird. Pierné composed for a variety of instruments. Trois Chansons DeMétiers is arranged for two vocal groups and contains many characteristics typical of the French style such as lyrical melodies a significant amount performance directions flourishes of semiquavers chromaticism and many changes in dynamics. Being such a prolific composer particularly for Vocal and Piano works Gabriel Fauré 's music is always addressed with high expectations. His Le Chanson D'Éve for Voice and Piano accompaniment is no exception. Fauré (1845-1924) began receiving high quality musical instruction from age 10 at the Niedermeyer School. He eventually became a piano pupil of Camille Saint-Saëns. Fauré 's career saw him succeed Théodore Dubois as organist at the Church of Madeleine in Paris and become professor of composition at the Paris Conservatoire all the while composing sublime works. His song cycle Le ChansonD'Éve was composed between 1906 - 1910. As Fauré 's longest song cycle Le Chanson D'Éve is made up of ten melodies based on poetry by Charles Van Lerberghe. With Fauré 's music remaining hugely popular to this day Le Chanson D'Éve is a favourite for the vocal repertoire.

Philippe Gaubert (1879-1941) was a distinguished performer on the Flute. It comes as no surprise therefore that his compositions for the instrument are at the forefront of the Flute's repertoire his Two Sketches being no exception. After a prominent career as a flautist with the Paris Opéra Gaubert was appointed as professor of Flute at the Paris Conservatoire as well as principal conductor of leading orchestras. It was during this time that Gaubert composed including his Two Sketches for Flute and Piano which is made up of two movements. The first of these Night on thePlain conveys many technical features including flourishing semiquaver passages a wide range lyricism intervals chromaticism and complex rhythms. Night on the Plain from Two Sketches is a challenging yet exciting piece for aspiring flautists.
