They both became so popular that the song eventually became the show’s main theme in the 1970s and 80s. Happy Days is an upbeat song that people can’t help but tap their feet to whenever they hear it. It even reached the top five on the American charts. No one will be able to sit still when your band strikes up this tune!

Concerto for Horn and Band was written on commission from the horn player Miguel Martinez Megias and the symphonic concert band La Armónica from Buñol Spain. This four-movement work written to fully explore the capabilities of the hornas a solo voice is comprised of a dramatic Sarabande a highly virtuoso Toccata a wonderful Romance and a Finale that reworks the second movement in a kind of fugue and brings the work to a spectacular close. The basicbuilding block of this concerto quite fittingly is the fifth: you only have to think of the post horn or a hunting theme which conjures up the sound of the perfect fifth. Wonderful new repertoire for a wonderful instrument.

It’s moments such as these that Daniel Weinberger has captured in music in Take Off .

The renowned book Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott (1791) formed the starting point when writing this heroic composition. In fact it`s the emotional tension and atmosphere of the book (instead of the original story line) that is represented musically in 3 parts.Part 1 refers to the sense of honour and the pride of the knight who fights for his ideals.After a bombastic opening a noble hymn follows that turns into a dansant theme in 6/8 time.In the middle part the difficulty of choosing between love and loyalty is expressed (Ivanhoe loves Rebecca but must marry Princess Rowena) in a compelling and increasingly modulating theme (agitation) that builds up to a climax.Then theturmoil of battle erupts (part 3) which conveys the personal vendetta between Ivanhoe and Templar Brian. The piece ends in a magnificent finale where the bombastic opening and noble hymn from the beginning are resumed.

ESSENTIA is an collaborative orchestral merger in Essen Noorderkempen in Belgium. This amalgamation was first established in September 2010. The piece The Essence of Music was written in honour of the founding of this young dynamic and energetic wind band. The composition perfectly encapsulates the project and its achievements in music and is therefore ideally suited as a concert opener.

March-Hermann Pallhuber’s traditional march was commissioned by the Austrian Television and was used as festive incidental music at a convention for conductors and concert bands in Innsbruck Austria. That is why it is subtitled “Wildschönauer Festmarsch” (Wildschönau festival march). A Village Festival will make an ideal opening piece but will work equally well to bring a concertto a lively close.

This work by the young Belgian composer Karel Deseure was written for the Koninklijke Harmonie (Royal Concert Band) De Wijngaard Vrijheidsvrienden from Wijnegem Belgium. Following an opening fanfare a brilliant allegro is heard featuring great alternating rhythms and virtuoso melodies. At the end the opening theme recurs this time with a wider instrumentation. This composition is suitable as an overture or contest piece.

Out of Earth is a free musical exploration of the creation mythology from Ovid's Metamorphoses. Much like in other mythologies it describes the journey of the human race from a once golden age through its destruction by the great flood culminating in its rebirth by the Earth. In the course of its composition the music began to emerge from these images and then grew beyond them. Out of Earth was commissioned by the Aulos Wind Orchestra Kriens (CH) and was first performed in October 2015 under the direction of José Rafael Pascual Vilaplana.
