Le Marais is a semi-programmatic composition by Christian Bouthier. It contains three movements each of which is based on a different aspect of the Parisian district of the same name. Le Marais is said to be one of the prettiest neighbourhoods in Paris where fashion culture food and architecture meet and mingle.

Antonio’s Boogie s’inspire d’une ligne mélodique des Quatre Saisons de Vivaldi. Ludwig’s Blues s’appuie sur les quatre premières notes de la Cinquième Symphonie de Beethoven. Finalement Wolfgang’s Rag développe des motifs de quintes aux cors qui font référence à l’univers sonore du maître Mozart.

Le baião (baïon) - une danse chantée et jouée en rythme binaire - traversa l’Atlantique au début des années 1950. Cette composition de Roland Kernen est un véritable hymne nordestin.

Izumi Shibata commissioned the Ballad for Bass Trombone as a unique and thoughtful birthday present for her husband who happens to play this very instrument. Thanks to her gift bass trombone players around the world received a stunning addition to their repertoire. The ballad will be a welcomed challenge for every soloist and an interesting though not particularly demanding job for the accompanying ensemble.

Diptych- Diptyque is the French word for “diptych ” meaning a hinged two-part image. The first section of this two-part musical painting has an Oriental feel with characteristic pentatonic melody lines and chords. The second section is a cheerful Saltarello dance that brings out the subtleties of the woodwind section. A juxtaposition of Eastern and Western music Diptyque reminds listeners of the power of music in transcending all cultural religious and political boundaries.

L’incroyable facilité avec laquelle Rossini composait des mélodies reste stupéfiante. En plus de vingt ans de carrière il a écrit une quarantaine d’opéras dont les ouvertures telles que celle extraite de Guillaume Tell sont connues de tous. Jacob de Haan a réalisé un superbe remix du thème de cette ouverture en combinaison avec une deuxième ligne mélodique plutôt surprenante. Foppe Jacobi est l’auteur de ce bel arrangement pour Orchestre d’Accordéons.

Klaas van der Woude has based his arrangement An Old Swedish Hymn on an old pastoral hymn from Dalarna. This beautiful melody even attracted ABBA as they used it as the opening music for some of their concerts. Van der Woude’s arrangement is in classical style making it suitable for any occasion.

Lorenzo Bocci has created an equally exciting arrangement for concert band.

Hayato Hirose composed this dramatic piece based on the great journey of Marco Polo Italian traveller and one of the first Europeans ever to visit Asia. In the 13th century he made a long journey from Venice to Mongolia with his father. After his arrival he was sent to the various regions in Asia by the Mongolian government to take notes about the culture the people and the way of life in those areas. Celebrate the life of this great explorer with this dynamic new concert work.

Chaque année la ville de Yokohama célèbre une fête particulière le “Yokohama Kaikosai” la date anniversaire de l’ouverture du port maritime qui permit le développement de la ville. L’Orchestre d’Harmonie de Yokohama (Yokohama Wind Symphony) fut spécialement créé en 2006 pour participer au Concert de Bienfaisance « Autour du Brass Band » organisé par l’Association The Brass Cruise. L’objectif de cette formation ad hoc est d’encourager et de soutenir l’activité culturelle de la population et de promouvoir la musique japonaise pour formations à vent ayant ses racines à Yokohama. Le Yokohama Wind Symphony est devenu un élément essentiel du festival. Il est constitué de plus de200 musiciens tous recrutés publiquement. En 2007 le compositeur Satoshi Yagisawa répondit favorablement à l’invitation de l’orchestre dont il fut le chef invité. À cet effet le comité de l’Association The Brass Cruise lui commanda une œuvre de circonstance. Satoshi Yagisawa composa une fanfare brillante qu’il intitula Fanfare Mi-Chi-Bi-Ki (d’après le nom d’une statue en bronze de Yokohama). L’œuvre fut donnée en création mondiale en ouverture du concert 2007. À l’instar de la statue qui l’a inspirée la fanfare exprime le désir d’un monde meilleur un monde de paix.

Les Anges dans nos campagnes-The title of this clever arrangement reveals the Christmas song it is based on. The melody can be traced back to a French folksong from the 18th century which is now known around the world. In France it is called Les anges dans nos campagnes in Germany it is most widely known as Engel auf den Feldern singen and in England it was originally called Angels From the Realms of Glory but it often known as Angels We Have Heard on High . Everyone will rejoice upon hearing the ‘Gloria in excelsis Deo’ refrain!

From Ancient Times is a major work for brass band inspired largely by the music of the Franco-Flemish School of the Renaissance. Hints of Gregorian chant and middle age dances pay tribute to music from even earlier times. The foundation of this spectacular work rests on truly ancient times; while the tonal language is of a much more modern nature!

Impressions of a Village- Bliss: Impressions of a Village contains three impressions of a village in the beautiful Brabant province in the Netherlands. The fi rst movement is in a very ‘classical style’ and appropriately captures the village’s history. Saxophones and a glockenspiel follow the path of a small playful river. The entire band join in as the small river approaches an ancient castle. The third movement contains lots of interesting rhythms portraying the hustle and bustle of everyday life in the village.
