Le poème évoque les différentes étapes de la vie. La trame musicale de Jacob de Haan porte la marque de la musique post-romantique de Richard Wagner et Richard Strauss. Stufen est placé sous le signe d’un adieu qui fait la part belle à la mélancolie - motif premier qui détermine l’essentiel du climat musical. Le passage instrumental final se développe comme un contrepoids à la tristesse. La musique change de couleur l’atmosphère est sereine et apaisante : de Lamineur nous passons en Do Majeur tonalité pure innocente et lumineuse. L’accord brisé de trois sons (Do Majeur) dans un mouvement ascendant et l’accord lumineux des flûtes et des hautbois apportent une touche aérienne au développement.

In the nineties the Cuban-American singer Gloria Estefan recorded a sparkling version of Vicki Sue Robinson’s disco classic Turn the Beat Around . She gave the song a catchy Latin beat and with this new impulse it was a worldwide hit. With the sentence from the song text “Love to hear percussion” in mind Peter Kleine Schaars incorporated a compelling percussion solo in his arrangement. The result is a dynamic piece of music full of pace and passion.

4 Guitars-The De Haske Guitar Series gives a whole variety of music in diverse styles for a wide selection of acoustic guitar ensembles. The irresistible song I Got Rhythm by George and Ira Gershwin is taken from his musical comedy Girl Crazy (1930).

For his transcription of Pictures at an Exhibition Tohru Takahashimade use of the original piano composition by Mussorgsky. The Great Gate of Kiev issued here separately is probably the best known melody from this classical masterpiece. C’est entre 1895 et 1905 que le public américain semble avoir fait connaissance avec le ragtime un genre unique issu de la fusion entre la musique européenne les rythmes africains et les influences de la musique créole. Outre Scott Joplin le « roi du ragtime » de nombreux autres compositeurs devaient contribuer à la notoriété de cette musique hautement expressive syncopée et polyrythmique. For Trumpet and Band-During his lifetime Heinrich Schaffer (1808-1874) was a famous singerand singing teacher. With his compositions for male-voice choir hewas very influential in northern Germany. Nowadays little is left ofthis man?s fame. Only his song Die Post im Walde is regularly performedwith much enjoyment by many men?s choirs. This beautiful song is nowavailable for trumpet and concert band.

Tanabata-In Japan July the 7th is a holiday known as Tanabata for which large celebrations are held throughout the country. The holiday is based on a legend about a young man and a young woman who are separated by the Milky Way and can only see each other once a year on this night. The Seventh Night of July is Itaru Sakai’s musical interpretation of this romantic legend. The alto saxophone and euphonium solos during the middle movement represent the two main themes from the legend.

Feelings is a well-known easy listening hit that was written halfway through the 1970s by the Brazilian singer-songwriter Morris Albert. However the melody is derived from a French song (Pour toi) from 1957 written by Louis Gaste who made this claim successfully. Over the years Feelings has been performed by famous artists like Ella Fitzgerald Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley. Numerous arrangements have been made for various instrumentations. This arrangement by Roland Kernen does justice to the original.

Wedding March (Marche nuptiale) est une œuvre de circonstance que le compositeur belge Jan Van der Roost a écrite en 2007 pour la cérémonie de mariage de son ami le compositeur néerlandais Johan De Meij. La création de l’œuvre a eu lieu par une belle journée fin août 2007. Jan Van der Roost en a assuré la direction.Si la musique dénote une influence de Mendelssohn et d’Elgar cette marche renferme néanmoins les traits caractéristiques de Jan Van der Roost : des thèmes variés et une grande expressivité de la mélodie cantabile du trio. La partie d’orgue (passage de fin) est ad libitum mais il va de soi que les sonorités de l’orgue enveloppent la musiqued’une splendeur extraordinaire.

Overture-Hector Berlioz was known for his innovative and creative musical gestures. He composed the opera Benvenuto Cellini in 1838 based on the fascinating life of a 16th century Italian goldsmith of the same name. Unfortunately the work as a whole never gained much popularity however its colourful and exciting overture has on the other hand become a firm favourite. Tohru Takahashi has created a stunning concert band arrangement of this well-known overture.
