Opera Full Score-English Only - Cloth Score. The first opera written for television 'Amahl and the Night Visitors' has become the most frequently performed opera of all time with over five hundred performances annually across the world. Menotti's take on theChristmas story focuses on Amahl a young handicapped boy and his mother who are visited by three Kings -- Balthazar Melchior and Kaspar -- who are on their way to find Jesus. The Kings stay the night during which Amahl'smother tries to steal some of the Kings' gold and is caught in the act. Melchior suggests that she keep the gold because the child they are visiting will rule his kingdom with love not riches. Amahl's mother gives back the gold wishing she had something to give of her own. Amahl offers his crutch as a gift and suddenly is able to walk. He decides to follow the Kings so that he himself may give his crutch to the Christ child. The work is ideal foran amateur performance (for example a secondary school or a local dramatic society) since all the action takes place in one act and one place and the work calls for limited adaptable musical forces. It also gives each principala chance to shine either in a solo or an ensemble. This is the Schirmer hardback edition of the full score.

French/English. Standard Version. During a visit to America Offenbach conceived the idea of the large-scale opera that was to be his masterpiece. By 1878 he had completed all three acts of Les Contes d'Hoffmannn in piano score and orchestrated the Prologue butsadly he never lived to see it performed and it was completed and produced by his friend Ernest Guiraud. The opera opens in a Nuremburg tavern to which the scene returns at various points as Hoffmann with his companionNicklausse and his poetic muse tells of a series of amorous adventures with in turn a mechanical doll a Venetian courtesan and a young opera singer. The scheme works sufficiently well to avoid discontinuity though it couldeasily be regarded as a linked set of one-act operas with related themes -- deception betrayal and death. A thread of philosophical melancholy runs through Hoffmann's tales strongly suggesting that Offenbach was a dispiritedand disappointed man who no longer wished to be known only as a purveyor of musical soufflés. This edition of the libretto is in both the original French and in an English translation by Ruth and Thomas Martin.

He had always been attracted to the common Central European tale of the 'free-shooter.' It concerns the man who makes a pact with the devil in order to obtain magic bullets or arrows that will always find their target. No one is safe from them not even the evil one from whom they came. The free-shooter is a damned soul avoided by his fellows unhappy and his end is always violent. The theme from the film El Super this Caribbean-style music is now available for solo piano. New York Rush is the orchestral theme from the award-winning film 'El Super' (1979). The score was recorded in 1981 (KIM Records/K-716). In this solo Piano transcription by the composer all essentialmusical elements are faithfully recreated. The rhythm of the work is a basso ostinato of Caribbean flavour heard throughout. Harmonically an almost exclusive use of the diminished seventh chord with an unresolved appoggiatura isemployed. The melody is a blues counterpointed by restless melodic segments of Latin origins and different timbres.

Written in 1983 with texts in English by the composer. The music is charged with emotion and a spinning lyric line. This is Menotti's best recital work to date.
