Incantation exhibits Augusta Read Thomas' enthusiasm for the violin. The five-minute work sings out with beauty and grace always with a richness and elegance. Falling loosely into an ABA form it ends as it were on a question with a major seventh hanging in the air unresolved.Incantation exhibits Augusta Read Thomas' enthusiasm for the violin. Chopin's Etude In E Major (Op. 10 No. 3) is often cited as his most popular Etude . First published in 1833 it is often referred to as Tristesse or Farewell alhough neither name was apparently authorised by the composer. While not quite as technically formidable as his other compositions it is one of the more musically challenging to balance due to its lyrical melody and suspended inner harmonies. Frédéric Chopin (1710-1849) was a Polish composer and virtuoso pianist whose compositional career was spent mostly in Paris. He only wrote music for the Piano and is best known today for his 12 Etudes and 24 Preludes a key part of any pianist’s repertoire.

For unaccompanied cello. Julius Klengel (1859-1933) was a German cellist composer and pedagogue. He was a cellist with the Leipzig Gewandhaus for over fifty years and was also a Professor at the Leipzig Conservatory. He wrote around 60 performance works including several concertos for the Cello. He is best remembered for his three volumes of Tägliche Übungen or Daily Studies but his two volumes of Technical Studies ( Technische Studien ) arguably have an even greater pedagogical value. The first volume is presented here and covers a wide range of key signatures accidentals and clefs with fingering providedwhere appropriate.

These six little Suites to which in the course of time the by-name 'French' was applied because they were written in the French Style of that period (being similar to those by F. Couperin) are here presented in a new edition after an original MS. with emendations by J.S. Bach's own hand said MS. having been found among F. W. Rust's literary remains. It contains however only the first four Suites the fifth and sixth added later to the series by Bach owe much of their corrections to an old edition by M. Clementi. On the whole the style of these Suites is free rather than scholastic and they are of moderate technical difficulty.
