Nikolai Kapustin's Humoresque Op. 75 for Piano. The Humoresque Op. 75 - composed in 1994 - is considered one of the most difficult piecesby Kapustin. Presented in the standard jazz form the variations sound like improvisations influenced by McCoy Tyner's style but are minutely through-composed.

Kapustin likes to give his works formal titles but these can be deceptive. The nature of the music within is far from traditional and his Toccatina op. 36 is no exception. Written in 1983 it is a succinct and dizzying piece that may remind you of jazz and rock improvisation but its construction and musical style are outside these boundaries. The new Spanish organ of the Hochschule fur Musik Mainz as an authentically rebuilt historical instrumentfrom the workshop of the organ builder Joaquín Lois from Tordesillas in Castile shall both adequately reproduce early music and be a source of inspiration for contemporary music. For this reason the Hochschule fur Musik Mainz commissioned five composers to write modern compositions according to the motto 'Early music in dialogue with New Music' which are a valuable addition to the repertoire of historical instruments of the 'Siglo de Oro'. Certain specifications had to be taken into account: e. g. a limited pitch range half stops for treble and bass registers the short octave as well as a mean-tone temperament. In addition each composition is based on a work of the Iberian organ literature; sometimes the work found its way into the new composition sometimes it only served as an inspiration. The pieces can also be played on a modern organ although there is a special charm in playing and hearing them played on an appropriate historical instrument. Encompassing a broad range of styles the resulting collection adds new sounds to the purely Baroque repertoire.

Arranged after the Piano Sonata by Martin Schmeding- Having been sceptical towards the church and religion all his life Edvard Grieg composed only a few works with sacred influence. There exist some study fugues from his student days which are reminiscent of an organ performance. This arrangement of the Piano Sonata in E minor Opus 7 is based on the original text. Every arrangement should aim at creating a balance between the original musical text and the possibilities of the chosen instrument while the composer strives for the greatest possible approximation to the original and at the same time to a setting suitable for the Organ. This not only requires the distribution of notes on manuals andpedals but also small adjustments in the musical text in order to make for example Piano pedal effects or figurations sound convincing on the Organ.

This is a tricky but rewarding Trumpet Sonata by German composer Paul Hindemith. He was a distinguished viola player and an important composer during the first half of the 20th century. With leaps and very deliberate textured melody this is a dramatic and sombre work exemplifying Hindemith's skill and instrumental sensitivity. The popular piece was published in the 'Méthode élémentaire de Piano' by Théodore Lack (for two hands) in 1909.
