Born in the village of Brand in the Upper Palatinate Max Reger (1873 1916) was taught by the renowned music theoretician Hugo Riemann. After finishing his studies and working as a freelance performer and composer in Wiesbaden he moved to Weiden beset by personal crises and eventually to Munich. To make himself better known in the musical scene he had some of his smaller works inserted in the magazine Neue Musikzeitung. This is how his Romanze G-Dur for violin and piano was published in November 1901 a beautiful occasional work ideal for music lessons or as a tranquil encore after a concert also in an arrangement for viola and piano.

This volume presents the probably most beautiful and most popular children's opera that has ever been written in an easy arrangement for piano with all excerpts being in the respective original key. Among the seven operas composed by Humperdinck 'Hänsel und Gretel' is his first and best masterpiece. The magical mood of this fairy-tale and the brilliant music explain why this opera still fascinates both children and adults.The series Get to Know Classical Masterpieces provides an introduction to well-known compositions in simple arrangements for piano by Hans-Günter Heumann. Volume 1 comprises 3 of these 6 beautiful sonatas by Handel which have been edited with a realised keyboard accompaniment by Erich and Elma Doflein. These sonatas can be played with a cello or viola da gamba continuo or they can be played with a keyboard accompaniment. The solo violin and cello (viola da gamba) continuo parts are also included on separate inserts.

The Austrian violinist and composer Jakob Dont (1815-1888) very early became a member of the Vienna Hofburg Theatre later of the Court Chapel. Although he had made a name for himself as a soloist he decided in favour of a career in education. For his instrument the violin he wrote about 50 works most of them modern opera pot-pourris and character pieces which are forgotten today. Apart from the preliminary exercises for Kreutzer and Rohde his 'Studies and Caprices' (opus 35) however have become an integral part of violin lessons. Praised by Joachim Auer and Flesch these outstanding studies were edited by Max Rostal in consideration of a modern violin technique andcomplemented by preparatory exercises and variants.

This volume offers you the opportunity to play to the accompanying CD. All pieces have been recorded in two versions: complete with clarinets and only accompaniment (without clarinets).
