It is no secret that the majority of piano owners in addition to playing classical music would also like to play popular standards and pop songs just like the piano player in a bar or cocktail lounge does improvising and going from one tune to another. How nice it would be if one could sit down to the piano at home or at a party producing all those lovely melodies by ear. Unfortunately up till now there has not been a single useful method that teaches how to acquire this ability; one that is written in a simple manner and starting from the basics. Here finally you hold in your hands an absolutely new and simple method that will enable you to fulfill your secret wish toimprovise at the piano completely by ear. I have the feeling that one of these days everyone who owns a piano a keyboard instrument or a synthesizer will own this book. Sonata-Fantasy- Nikolai Kapustin's Sonata No.1 for Piano was composed in 1984 and has a duration of approximately 18 minutes. Kapustin composed his first Piano Sonata op.39 in 1984 - surprisingly late in his career. Its subtitle Sonata-Fantasia and the fact that the first three movements are played without a break give the impression of a constant stream of thought; the first movement certainly has an improvisatory feel and the second begins in an equally searching way. But in the scherzo and finale it is obvious that the composer is unable to repress his love of the sheer physical aspect of playing; the finale especially is an unstoppable tourde force.

Variations On The Caprice 24-The concert piece Paganini Jazz by Faz?l Say which was inspired by classical modern and jazz styles is reminiscent of the music of such greats as Scott Joplin Art Tatum Gershwin and Bernstein and was originally designed as a charming encore work (1988); following the appreciative response of music lovers and in particular that of music critics it was transformed over a perion of time into a more substantial work for piano. Briefly the piece was rewritten and expanded a number of times between 1988 and 1995. We can evaluate the work as having taken its inspiration from Paganini's renowned 24th Capriccio transforming it into variations on jazz requiring virtuoso renditionas well as being a creation open to the addition of improvisations and a variety of arrangements.Throughout music history a number of composers have written various works inspired by the 24th Capriccio. We can count among them Liszt Brahms Rachmaninov and Lutoslavski. In Say's work however a different aspect must be noted: the composer is prepared to add various developmental passages and transitional improvisations while interpreting this work in concert. Furthermore when the work is considered as a short encore piece it is abbreviated in a manner deemed suitable by Say.

from Children's Corner- The famous Golliwogg's Cakewalk is the final part of Debussy's Children's Corner series consisting of 6 miniatures for Piano which he wrote for his daughter in 1906-1908. The Ragtime style refers to the dance which came into fashion around the turn of the century. In the middle part the composer parodies the beginning of the opera Tristan and Isolde by Richard Wagner several times to which Debussy had a rather ambiguous relationship. The present arrangement allows to play the popular set in a version for melody instruments with accompaniment.
