For more than three decades the ‘Sassmannshaus Tradition’ has been the household name for excellence in beginner string methods in German-speaking countries. More than half a million students have successfully learned to play string instruments using this publication. The publication of the four Violin books in 2008 in a fully adapted English version has been a big success. On the back of this success story Bärenreiter has now published the four books for Cello in a newly adapted version for today’s English speaking children. What makes this Cello method so unique? The leading German Cello method now available in English. - Large print notes andtexts as well as many colourful illustrations are ideal for pre-school as well as school children. - Note reading is emphasised from the first lesson encouraging ensemble playing from the very beginning. - Songs and scales in different positions are easily mastered within the first year of playing to ensure that children are not confined to first position playing. - Advanced Cello techniques such as varied bow strokes and shifting are introduced in a basic form.

Hymn to Frei-British composer Philip Sparke was asked to write this arrangement of Hymn to Frei for the Norwegian Brass Band Frei Hornmusikk . Sparke had already used part of this hymn by a composer well-known in the home region of the band in The Saga of Haakon the Good . In A Norwegian Hymn three verses of the tune can be heard: the first is performed by various soloists followed by a quieter second verse before the third verse brings the piece to a triumphal close. A beautiful piece which is also excellent to use to work on musicality with bands in lower divisions.

Standard choral work with a manageable reduced orchestration. A stylistically appropriate as well as tried and tested arrangement. Compatible with Vocal score H 2924-90. Dvo ák ’s Requiem for soloists choir and orchestra is one of the highlights within the international choral repertoire. Now Bärenreiter is presenting this work in an arrangement by Joachim Linckelmann with chamber Orchestra based on the full score from the Complete Edition of the Works by Antonín Dvo ák . The arrangement dispenses with all the brass instruments except for a single Horn; all that remains of the Percussion arethe Timpani; the Organ has also been taken out. The cor anglais and Bass Clarinet parts can be replaced by an Oboe and Clarinet (ossia staves in score and parts). This arrangement which judiciously reduces the richness of Dvo ák ’s original orchestration makes the work available to a broader range of performers outside professional circles.

Brahms’ popular 16 “Waltzes” opus 39 composed in 1866 for four hands were transcribed by Brahms one year later for two hands. At the request of his publisher Brahms also wrote an easier version of the work for solo piano. Brahms himself described the first version as suitable for 'reasonable hands' that is for proficient players and the easier version as 'perhaps for prettier hands' that is for domestic music-making. He initially described the latter version to his publisher as a 'children’s edition'. The catchy and musically easily accessible pieces are among the composer’s most popular works and are particularly suitable for piano students and lovers of the Romanticrepertoire. Both versions of the “Waltzes” op. 39 (BA 9602 BA 9603) are available in separate editions and form an important contribution to Bärenreiter’s series of Brahms’s works in scholarly-critical Urtext editions. With Christopher Hogwood’s new edition of Elgar ’s much loved Serenade a scholarly-critical edition of the work is now available for the first time. The edition also contains a facsimile showing the original ending of thethird movement as well as an informative foreword (Ger/Eng) and a critical commentary (Eng). Bohemian Rhapsody is undoubtedly one of the most important songs in the history of rock ‘n’ roll. The song defied all convention in terms of form. It has no chorus. Instead it comprised of an introduction ballad guitar solo operatic interlude hard rock section and coda. Perhaps the most mystifying aspect of the song is the lyrics which are commonly thought to be autobiographical although members of the band have never fully explained them. Bring the house down with Philip Sparke’s authentic arrangement!
