Johann Jacob Froberger (1617–67) enjoyed an outstanding reputation during his lifetime as his compositional style represented a synthesis of Italian French and English influences. There is now a growing awareness that Froberger ’s significance for Keyboard music of the 17th century is comparable only with that of Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck. Each volume contains a critical commentary as well as a detailed foreword with sections on the scope and structure of the new edition the editorial method and performance practice. Information on contemporary instruments ornamentation and Froberger ’s biography is also included. Both volumes VI.1 andVI.2 contain music from anonymous copies of the 17th century undoubtedly made from autograph manuscripts which were returned to the Singakademie in Berlin from Kiev in 2001. The Mass In C Major was completed and premiered in 1807 and has been unjustly described as a preliminary step towards the great Missa solemnis. Lion City Festival was commissioned as one of the test pieces for the Singapore Youth Festival 2010 an annual event at which school ensembles from throughout Singapore can receive gold silver or bronze awards for their performance. The English name for Singapore comes from Malay Singapura which has Sanskrit roots meaning ‘Lion City’. Lion City Festival is in the form of a quick march in ABA form. An opening fanfare leads to a perky march tune which is taken up by the full band. A change of key heralds a legato trio section before the main theme returns in varied form. Roaring fun!

For String Sextet (2 Violins 2 Violas 2 Cellos Bass) set of parts. Mozart ’s Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola K. 364 (320d) is his only complete surviving work in this genre. He wrote it in 1779 after returning from Paris and Mannheim. For two decades it was known only in a few copyists’ manuscripts. The first edition did not appear until 1802. The work achieved great popularity that same year particularly the arrangements for Piano four-hands and Piano trio. This arrangement for String Sextet dating from 1808 is interesting not only for its unusual scoring but also for the way the two concertante instrumentsinteract with the other strings. This edition revives this arrangement after almost two centuries drawing primarily on the sole surviving source: the first edition in parts published by the Vienna Stamperia Chimica in 1808. The editor Christopher Hogwood recounts the history of the work and the particulars of the arrangement in a trilingual preface (Eng ./ Ger./ Cz .) and a critical report.
