This 3-part work begins with a martial and heroic theme where the brass and drums play an important role. A second melodic theme contrasts with the first although elements of the first theme remain clearly present and they in turn provide a link to the second calmer movement which is introduced with a splendid solo on the saxophone. You can hear fragments of the first part here too.In the third part the small drum begins to play the background theme and is followed by a grand group of brass instruments playing a heavy concert march which after an increase of tempo gradually ends in a grand finale which refers once again to the initial theme.

Bart Picqueur arranged this traditional piece and has also provided lead and backing vocals as an option.

The Canadian singer Lara Fabian is fairly unknown in our part of the world but this excellent ballad called Broken Vow is proof that she deserves more recognition. This wonderful music has been arranged by Georges Moreau who has turned it into an accessible saxophone solo.

Dies Infernus means 'Day of Hell'. The reason for this title is the dreadful disaster that befell the Dutch village of Kolhorn in 1788 when the whole village went up in flames. Afterwards a huge appeal was launched to rebuild the unfortunate village. Many people were willing to contribute resulting in the collection of the enormous sum at the time of eighteen thousand guilders with which the village could be rebuilt. This work was commissioned by Harmonie De Eendracht in Kolhorn to mark its 110th Anniversary.

Musicals such as ‘Cats’ and ‘Phantom of the Opera’ are played around the world and have been seen and heard by millions of people. Erik Mast re-discovered this unknown but exquisite piece which has been recorded once again by Sarah Brightman. A great moment of rest for your concert.

Festive Winds begins with a short introduction before we hear a light airy and fresh-sounding passage. The original character of this march is above all in the trio which conjures up the sounds of a big band with its bluesy style. The work was commissioned by the Société Cantonale des Musiques Vaudise to celebrate the 27th festival of the French canton of Vaudois in Savigny Switzerland where the march was given its première by a mass ensemble.

Edward Elgar composed Salut d’Amour as an engagement present for Caroline Alice Roberts. The original title was Liebesgruß - an indication of the fluent German of the composer's fiancé. Due to the relatively humble sales of the work with this title it was decided to change it to a French name. A wise decision given that nowadays this melody is among the best-known of all time.

This Irish traditional song is widely known even though this tune consists of only a few bars that are repeated all the time. Bart Picqueur turned it into a lively arrangement and incorporated the theme in different ways with a stirring crescendo towards the end.The perfect encore piece or taster piece for any concert!

This amusing short piece from �The Goonies� (1985) by Steven Spielberg in which a gang of children is looking for a pirates� treasure is very refreshing and virtuoso without being particularly difficult. This work is suitable and interesting for any concert programme.

This fine three-part work by Bald Wyntin is intended for young dynamic orchestras and is ideal for working on colour musicality and harmony. Each of the parts focuses on one particular aspect and the work has been orchestrated in such a way that it can be played by most orchestras. It is a varied and colourful work.

In the 15th century AD the northern region of Portugal was hit by the plague.Legend has it that the population made a sacrifice to St. Bartholomew in the form of a special type of blessed bread called �Fogazas� in order to end this terrible curse. This developed into a traditional fiesta the �Festa das Fogaceiras� which is celebrated to this day.This story was the source of inspiration for this composition by the Spanish composer Teo Aparicio-Barberán.

This new work is based on Irish folk music.In the first part the main theme is presented as a ballad starting with the piccolo (as replacement for the flute which is widely used in Ireland) moving on the wood section to end with the entire orchestra.It then changes to a kind of rock style theme: powerful rhythmic accompaniment with effects in dampers a pedal point and the use of the spoons which is typical of Irish music (Irish pub) high-range bongo drum (replacement for the Bodhran) etc.In this second part I introduced a second theme as a counterbalance played by several groups which has clearly a more legato character and therefore sounds more melodious.The climaxof the work starts in the low-range brass section with its marcato theme that is developed with a great deal of rhythmicity in the accompaniment clusters etc. into a percussion solo interspersed by the orchestra in five-eight time with frequent parallel movement in chords (folk music style).Towards the end theme 2 recurs twice: first as heard earlier with an extra counter melody and accompaniment pattern then in a canonical form in which the theme is played by three groups. The conclusion is a repeat of the middle section in five-eight time.I have tried to use many of the colours of a wind orchestra by having the wood sections and brass section play alone and making extensive use of dampers. Percussion also has a prominent role throughout the work.

Simi Jadech is Hebrew for “give me your hand”. This work was commissioned by the royal wind band “De Heidegalm Heusden- Berkenbos” Belgium. The composer based his composition on a Jewish folk song of the same name which is characterised by the typical Klezmer style. This is an excellent work suitable for competitions or concerts. It has sufficient instrumentation throughout and can therefore be performed by most orchestras.
