Three Easy Dances for Band-The three castles city walls and the old town of Bellinzona together form one of the Swiss World Heritage Sites on the UNESCO List. Unlike similar fortifications the castles of Bellinzona are almost completely preserved in their original condition. As the title of this work suggests the three movements of Bellinzona Castles are based on the three castles which are briefly described as follows:The Bellinzona castles are grouped around the Castelgrande —known as St. Michael’s Castle—which stands on a rock looking out over the valley of the Ticino river. The castle was built in the 10th century and has two distinctive towers: one white and oneblack. The strong castle walls that embrace the entire old city run out from here.The second castle Montebello is built as part of the defensive wall. The heart of the castle dates from the late 13th century but it was expanded between the mid-14th century and the end of the 15th century.The third castle Sasso Corbaro stands on a rock southeast of the fortifications. The castle which was built at the end of the 15th century stands apart from the rest of the fortress.

Groups such as the Beach Boys Dick Dale and his Del- Tones The Surfaris and The Challengers dominated the international charts. The summery and happy style was very catchy and as it turned out had a great influence on early rock music. Crystal Waves is an ode to this surf music and utilises its characteristic melodies chords and rhythms to form a catchy piece for concert band.

Stef Minnebo‘s Concert Pitch is a spectacular opening piece. It contains two contrasting sections that flow into one another. The introduction is musically beautiful however it can be performed as background music to a spoken introduction. The conductor would then cue the band to jump into the lively second section and take off!

The Dutch pop idol Rob de Nijs has been a permanent feature of the Dutch pop scene for many years. Our Filip Sandras has made a neat medley of his best known numbers.

This piece tells the story of a conflict between the communities in the valleys around Sörenberg a village in Entlebuch in the Swiss canton of Lucerne. An old legend from the 14th century tells of an attack on Sörenberg by marauding Obwaldners who stole the local cattle. It’s full of spectacular effects and impressive rhythmical and dynamic sequences. Ideal as a contest piece.

Juri Briat has arranged the tunes of the winter Olympic games of the Eighties for a wind orchestra. As always he has chosen original works and arranged them in his own typically colourful way. An ideal opening number for your concert with allure.

Fanfare and Jubilation was commissioned by the Yahata Technical High School Band (Fukuoka Japan) to celebrate the 40th edition of their annual concert and is dedicated to its directors Mr. Satoru Yoshihara and Ms. Akane Morimoto. The premiere took place on June 14 2007 in Kitakyushu City Fukuoka Japan with Mr. Satoru Yoshihara conducting.The piece is comprised of two parts: a festive opening fanfare; and a scintillating melody that reflects the celebratory atmosphere. Its melodic character uplifting mood and punchy wit make Fanfare and Jubilation equally suitable as an opening piece or a concert work.
