This work was commissioned by the Concordia wind band and the Écho male choir based in Miège (Valais Switzerland) to mark their respective centenaries. The piece is a sanguine sounding work entirely based upon variations in several keys of a main hymn. This creates a festive and ‘ sprituoso ’ atmosphere throughout this impressive highly colourful and energetic work. The source of inspiration for this work is the magical world of gemstones. The special powers of four of these stones appealed to composer Bert Appermonts’ imagination. In this work different distinguishing atmospheres are evoked. The work is composed as a suite containing four movements: Carnelian: The Stone of Perseverance Opal: The Stone of Misfortune Amethyst: The Stone of Wisdom and Amazonite: The Stone of Playfulness . This well-known hymn belongs to the essential repertoire when it comes to church concerts. This has to do with the way in which the work slowly develops. The start is very intimate and melancholic eventually leading to an enormous climax with a resounding (ad lib) organ. Erik Mast has given this traditional hymn a makeover - with an eye for detail and ample doublings in all parts.

March of the Molenberg-This joyful festive march by the Belgian composer Sven Van Calster was written specially for young ensembles looking for a challenge. In Festiva all instrument groups are featured but the parts include sufficient doublings to cover any missing players. In a balanced concert programme a march is of course an absolute must!

Drop Zone is written in a heavy metal style in which even the woodwinds can play along! After a calm introduction the listener is startled by a pounding heavy metal theme. Then it’s calmer again but don’t be fooled: head banging is the order of the day…This piece for a variable five-part ensemble is ideal for anyone who wants to bring some variety into the concert programme. This powerful number is unstoppable. An optional part for electric guitar is included which gives even more emphasis to the whole piece. A modified and simplified drum part is also provided. Rock on!

Christmas in a Box est un ensemble de six noëls d’Europe et d’ailleurs. We Shall Rise Again-The terroristic attacks in Brussels Paris Nice and Berlin shocked many people and lead to fear distrust and disbelief. To express these emotions Bert Appermont composed the beautiful and sensitive In Memoriam . He used parts of the song Au Clair de la Lune as a symbolic reference to the innocence that was suppressed by these events. He combined this with a lyrical melody which expresses the hope for a better world. In Memoriam is a touching and reflective piece for a concert.

Exultate is a merry exuberant composition that begins with a festive opening fanfare that gives way to a lyrical theme - the common thread that runs throughout this work. This piece which was commissioned by the Comfort Wind Ensemble from Fukuoka Japan is an ideal opening work for any concert!

The magnificent concert march Aurum (lat. gold) was written on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the cunductor of the municipal band of Wolfach in Baden-Württemberg Germany. The march begins with a light and playful theme. Thefollowing lyrical trio provides a contrast with its nod to Edward Elgar. After a number of key changes the introductory theme returns in canon. Finally the music heads to a majestic finale in which the trio theme is played as a splendid baroquechorale.

De los Zapatos Rotos-‘El batallón de los zapatos rotos’ literally means ‘the regiment of the wornout shoes’. This composition is a sort of hybrid between the typically Spanish paso doble and a Belgian hunters’ march. The title is a metaphor for fighting for a just cause even without the necessary means. An original variation on the standard paso doble!
