Aram Iljitsj Khatchaturian an Armenian by nationality was born 1903 in Tiflis into the family of a book-binder. He began his musical education in Moscow in 1922 at the Gnessin Music School where his composition master was Mikhail Gnessin and completed it at the Moscow Conservatoire where he was a pupil of Nikolai Miaskovsky the famous Sovjet composer and pedagogue. Khatchaturian is the author of two symphonies three concertos (for piano for violin and for cello) the music for three ballets (Happiness Gayane Spartacus) and many chamber instrumental and vocal compositions. His latest work � the ballet Spartacus � has won in 1959 the Lenin Prize atthat time the highest honour.N. Volkov�s libretto for the ballet �Spartacus� is based on actual historical events � the great uprising of the slaves in Rome in 74 � 71 B.C. under the leadership of Spartacus. In spite of its historical subject �Spartacus� is essentially modern. Khatchaturian wrote : �I think that the heroic personality of Spartacus is in many aspects close to the struggle the oppressed colonial peoples of today are waging for their rights�.�Spartacus� is made out of three suites. Each of the suites is an independent work complete by itself and possessing its own logic of development.

But these attempts are in vain...The strong sea currents around the island make it virtually impossible to escape!The theme of destiny consequently becomes quite desperate in the canon between euphonium and bugle.When the vibraphone and chimes can be heard again for the last time the main theme is played once again on the flute and bass-clarinet.And then the lament begins again this time played on the English horn and gradually fading away until only the silence of death remains�

Raymond van het Groenewoud has been a well-known figure in Flanders and the Netherlands for many years now. He has been surprising the public with his original songs for more than 20 years often with a large dose of humour and social comment. At one moment his music is moving and sensitive and then full of Latin American temperament or pure rock �n� roll. In this medley Filip Sandras has included �Cha Cha Cha� �Warme Dagen� �Ik wil de grootste zijn� and of course �Vlaanderen Boven�.

Surfin’ USA I get Around Barbara-Ann Good Vibrations-In 1961 the three Beach Boys brothers Brian Dennis and Carl went straight to the top of the charts with their first single called Surfin’. By 1966 the Beach Boys were even more popular that The Beatles thanks to the single Good Vibrations. Juri Briat has made an excellent medley of the songs Surfin USA I Get Around Barbara-Ann and last but not least Good Vibrations.

He became very famous as a singer actor and cabaret artist mainly in Belgium and the Netherlands. This is his song Go On Forever a translation of the Dutch version We zullen doorgaan which was a massive hit in 1977.

It is no secret that most children are mad about stories and fairytales and that these are actually essential for their development.Willy Fransen has based his latest work which he has dedicated to his first grand-child Simon on this idea. The composition consists of themes that will intrigue children in a similar manner and they depict the twinkling eyes of children while fairytales are read to them.

Following his arrangement of �4 Lyriske Stykker� Jan Rypens selected four pieces from Edvard Grieg�s piano repertoire. These pieces can be played as an ensemble or individually. These parts are ideal for intermezzos in your concert programme or for warming up.

Paul De Leeuw is probably one of the most popular cabaret artists and presenters in the Netherlands and is also well known beyond that country’s borders. The song “Vlieg met me mee” (fly with me) is very popular and the ideal sing-along for your concerts.
