Surfin’ USA I get Around Barbara-Ann Good Vibrations-In 1961 the three Beach Boys brothers Brian Dennis and Carl went straight to the top of the charts with their first single called Surfin’. By 1966 the Beach Boys were even more popular that The Beatles thanks to the single Good Vibrations. Juri Briat has made an excellent medley of the songs Surfin USA I Get Around Barbara-Ann and last but not least Good Vibrations.

This subdued choral music with its Latin-derived title was commissioned by the True Friends or De Ware Vrienden of Malderen in honour of the previous chairman. This great number by the young artist Sven Van Calster was composed for the Antwerp-based trumpet band Blazerensemble - Deurne (B) especially for the recording of their CD.This refreshing and fairly simple but dynamic music was written for several instruments and can therefore be played by practically any formation. Symphony for the Future was originally a soundtrack written for a multimedia spectacle with film light and laser effects. The soundtrack which initially consisted of 4 parts was played live by a symphonic orchestra and a pop group in sync with the screening of a film. The assignment was to reflect a message of hope and positive enthusiasm for the future using music and film as a mixed media. In this arrangement for wind instruments the 4 parts come together seamlessly. Jan Rypens has succeeded in producing an excellent orchestration of the piece.

Stef Minnebo who is an expert in this kind of music thanks to his work as a bass and guitar player made an original but faithful adaptation of this Belle Perez hit. Jericho is the musical translation of the well-known story from the book of Joshua about the capture of the city of Jericho by the Israelites.Part 1 depicts the cruel journey through the desert to Canaan the promised land. An emotional lamentation for the yearning for a home for the end of a roaming existence.The capture of Jericho is the theme of part 2. The city cannot be captured immediately and Jehovah orders an impressive army to march around the city for six days. On the seventh day they marched around the city seven times and the priests blew their trumpets and the people cried so loud that the walls of Jericho came tumbling down. The Jews stormed the city and drove theinhabitants away. The music clearly reveals the marching army and you can hear the walls falling down with a tremendous noise. However there is quite some artistic freedom in the actual story.A majestic and grand melody subsequently evokes the triumphant emotions that emerged as the fortified city fell (part 3).Following a personal and romantic interpretation the scene ultimately ends in a typical Jewish feast (part 4) whereby the virtuosity of melodies played by the woodwinds and the passionate rhythms refer to traditional Jewish music. All themes are repeated in this last part in various forms often simultaneous and in duelling counterpoint. The piece ends with fragments from the main theme of part 1 in major: peace and quiet return at last.

With this composition which was commissioned by the music association �t�Meziek� in the town of Berlare and dedicated to Dennis Van Broeck we would like to present the composer-arranger Bart Picqueur for the first time. In this work the composer depicts 4 different episodes: daybreak (lento misterioso) talking animals and insects (allegro giocoso) a funeral march for a deceased villager (tempo) and the village feast (allegro festivo).
