Roxanna Panufnik's Let Me B for Piano Quartet. Let me B (for piano quartet) is so-called because the entire piece centres around the note B being passed like a sort of relay baton between each of the players. It falls into two sections - the first section is quite fast and melodramatic and the second section slower and rather romantic is actually borrowed from a slow movement of my piano trio. - Roxanna Panufnik Commission made possible by the Cavatina Chamber Music Trust.

Cecilia McDowall's A Draught Of Fishes for Piano Quintet. This piece has been specially written for St Paul’s Boys School. St Paul’s was founded by John Colet in 1509 with 153 children a number traditionally associated with the gospel miracle of the draught of fishes in which Jesus suggests to his disciples they would have more success if they cast their nets on the other side of the boat. A Draught Of Fishes opens with sombre strings and liquid piano accompaniment. The mood of the piece then alters to one of optimism and the players ‘catch’ their fish Schubert’s Trout! To this day there are 153 foundation scholars at St Paul’s at any one time and theyare entitled to wear a silver fish in their button holes. - Cecilia McDowall Commission made possible by St Paul's School.

Cheryl Frances-Hoad's Commuterland for Solo Piano. 'Commuterland was written directly after I had had to do a long commute every day for a week for a project I was working on. The frustration of rush hour and being caught behind crowds walking slowly through underground tunnels is expressed in this piece! At the same time I was listening to a lot of Bartok and the repetitive motivic cells and harmonies are in part a hommage to this composer who is one of my idols.' - Cheryl Frances-Hoad
