While he was in the middle of writing a large-scale musical production Rik Elings sought diversion in composing these pieces for clarinet quartet. All Glory Be to God on High-Jacob de Haan begins his arrangement of the well-known hymn Allein Gott in der Höh’ sei Ehr (All Glory Be to God on High) with a quotation from his own Missa Katharina a mass for choir soprano and band. To this melody he sets the Latin text from the last part of the Gloria. The chorale is then heard after an interlude and can at the director’s discretion be accompanied by the choir singing in either German or English. A perfect work for church concerts.

The first movement depicts what is without a doubt Bartholdi’s most famous sculpture the Statue of Liberty in New York which also gives this piece its name. Next listeners get to experience the trumpeting angels which can be seen atop the First Baptist Church in Boston. The final movement takes listeners to France to view the Lion of Belfort in France.

O kerstnacht schoner dan de dagen (‘Oh Christmas Night more beautiful than the days’) is a stately chorale that sings the praises of Jesus’ birth.Three wise men from the East Caspar Melchior and Balthazar follow a bright star in the sky which leads them to Bethlehem. There they worship the newborn King and offer him gold frankincense and myrrh: Wij komen van Oosten (We’ve come from the East’).This musical Christmas story ends with a festive repeat of the third movement the stately chorale.

Naohiro Iwai the master of entertaining concert band arrangements has selected four songs from the wide repertoire of George Gershwin for this wonderful medley. A fitting tribute to one of the all time jazz masters.

Towards the Future was commissioned by the Nagoya City Fire Bureau for the 50th anniversary of the Nagoya City Fire Bureau Band (Nagoya Japan). It was premiered by the band on 7 February 2009 conducted by Masuo Nakamura. This concert march was conceived to lift up the spirits of the firemen who save people’s lives. In this work the composer portrays what he sees as the typical characteristics of youth his young daughter being a source of inspiration. The music describes different emotions between parents and their child such as parental love proudness andalso some tension. The final movement starts with a fugue based on the first theme leading to the work’s climax where the chorale appears in majestic form.

With Emperor French composer Thierry Deleruyelle wanted to create a descriptive musical work depicting the life of Napoleon Bonaparte. The first movement represents the idiosyncrasies of this famous personality as well as his dramatic mood swings. The second movement is dedicated to his great love Josephine Beauharnais. A contrasting third movement depicts Napoleon the fearless general and the countless battles he waged. A truly powerful work about one of histories truly powerful men.
