The source (sauce!) of inspiration for this work was somewhat unusual. Whilst on tour with a youth brass group Kazys Daugėla ate a Piri-Piri salad that had a wickedly hot sauce. He jokingly told his fellow band members that one day he would write a piece to celebrate this mouth watering experience. The result was this Hot and Spicy piece garnished with a light mambo rhythm!

The melody can be traced back to a French folksong from the 18th century which is now known around the world. In France it is called Les anges dans nos campagnes in Germany it is most widely known as Engel auf den Feldern singen and in England it was originally called Angels From the Realms of Glory but it often known as Angels We Have Heard on High . Everyone will rejoice upon hearing the ‘Gloria in excelsis Deo’ refrain!

From Balletti a cinque voci-During the second half of the 16th century Giovanni Giacomo Gastoldi composed almost entirely sacred works however it was with his Balletti not published until 1591 and 1594 that he gained fame and recognition. The homophonic structure and simple melodies conveyed a charming sense of naivety that became so popular during this period. Robert van Beringen has arranged Amor Vittorioso La Sirena L’Innamorato and L’ardito with five part flexible instrumentation.

Vocalise is the second movement from Satoshi Yagisawa’s Trombone Concerto . Yagisawa finally decided to publish this movement as a separate piece since it has been frequently performed independently and on the euphonium tenor saxophone or the trombone. Just like the title implies Vocalise exhibits a warm gentle chorale-like feel that any audience will enjoy. Also available in an edition with piano accompaniment.

For Cityscapes the composer used the metropolis of New York the largest city of the United States as a source of inspiration. The first movement mirrors the skyline of the ‘Big Apple’. In movement two Central Park is introduced and in the closing movement of this triptych the ever-sparkling Manhattan known for its many skyscrapers and its financial centre Wall Street is the focal point. Not only are the busy city traffic and the chaotic hustle and bustle expressed in the music but also the impressive buildings including the famous Empire State Building. Let the magic of New York shine with this dramatic new item for concert band.

Dances & Sonnets is a piece by Jacob de Haan inspired by the dance and poetry of the 19th Century Europe. Lively instrumental dances alternate with spoken sonnets that are recited by one or more readers accompanied by quiet solemn music to provide contrast. De Haan has compiled a list of suggested poems to be read but other poems may be selected that better fit the occasion. Dances & Sonnets is a dramatic and truly special piece!

from Requiem opus 48-Pie Jesu is the famous aria for soprano and orchestra from Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem opus 48. Fauré (1845- 1924) composed the work in 1887 two years after his father’s death and only a short time before his mother passed away. Fauré’s Pie Jesu is richly atmosphere and peaceful and Robert van Beringen perfectly captures the essence of Fauré’s beautiful music in this arrangement for fanfare band.

Waldkircha in Musica- Jubilate’s main theme comes from the Gregorian chant on the Psalm Jubliate Deo omnis terra. The work itself was inspired by the sacredhistory of the Waldkirch (a forest village) community located on the Swiss/German boarder. It tells a tale of the Irish and Scottish monks who build the first wooden church at the site of what is now Waldkirch of the dramatic events good and bad that have taken place over the centuries and of the flourishing community that has withstood the trials of time.

Boy George founded the group Culture Club which had several worldwide hits during the 1980’s. One of his biggest hits was Karma Chameleon which Peter Kleine Schaars has used to create this dazzling arrangement for concert band.

Suite based on a folk song from Arkansas-The American state of Arkansas is often called ‘the natural state’ and ‘the land of opportunity.’ This piece belongs to Jacob de Haan’s series of musical montages depicting various states in the USA including Dakota Oregon and Virginia. Arkansas is a suite in three movements based on a well-known native American folk song. It appears as a ballade variations and finally accompanies a jazzy rhythm. The folk song helps provide continuity throughout the three movements. A perfect addition to any concert.

Refraction is a work that uses the entire band and all the colours it can possibly produce. As the title suggests it was inspired the fascinating physical phenomenon known as refraction. Just like light is split and disbursed into all its colours the main theme is split into little motives. As the individual motives are disbursed throughout the band different sections become more prominent only to recede into the general texture again. The work concludes with the fusion of all these elements in a monumental climax of movement sound and colour.
