With its simple memorable melody and folk-song style You Are My Sunshine is undoubtedly one of America’s most successful love songs of the 20th century. Its success in the 1940s massively boosted the popularity of the song’s original performers Jimmie Davis and Charles Mitchell so much so that it helped to springboard Davis’ political career culminating in his successful election as Governor of Louisiana in 1944. This arrangement for a quartet line-up is very playable and was arranged by Mike Sheppard. This piece effectively guarantees success at your next concert.

The six-part suite Six Cocktails by French composer Pascal Proust offers something for every taste: some familiar flavours from closer to home mingle with those from lands afar. In addition—as per standard in the Music Box series—all four parts are flexible and can be combined with each other and supplemented by percussion instruments as required ensuring the perfect mix in a convivial atmosphere: shaken or stirred!

As the title suggests Spanish Overture has a strong Spanish character. The music in this overture is full of quintessential Spanish colours. Following a fluid and spontaneous development which moves between major and minor keys a slow passage with a calm and peaceful melodic line is presented. The finale of this passionate work recalls the initial theme now presented in all its splendour.

These four short pieces are from a collection of Madrigals by the English organist Thomas Weelkes. This arrangement by Peter Knudsvig works well for brass quintet and will bring a bit of Renaissance grandeur to any concert. from the Clarinet Concerto in Eb Major Op. 36-Le compositeur et violoniste tchèque Frantisek Vincenc Kramar dont le nom fut germanisé en Franz Vinzenz Krommer est né le 27 novembre 1759 à Kamenice en Moravie occidentale et mort le 8 janvier 1831 à Vienne en Autriche. À l’adolescence il est initié à l’art du violon et à l’orgue par son oncle Anton Matthias Krommer lui-même organiste et chef de chœur. En 1785 il fait un premier séjour à Vienne avant de rejoindre l’orchestre du Comte de Limburg-Stirum dont la résidence se trouve à Simontornya en Hongrie. Il est engagé d’abord en tant que violon solo de l’orchestre puis plus tard en tant que maître de chapelle. Vers 1790 il obtient le poste de chef de chœurà la cathédrale de Pécs. Il quitte cette fonction en 1793 pour entrer au service du Comte Károlyi puis du Prince Antal Grassalkovich. En 1795 suite au décès du prince hongrois Franz Krommer revient à Vienne. Après une longue période d’infortune il entre comme Maître de Chapelle au service du Duc Ignaz Fuchs en 1806. Quatre ans plus tard il est nommé au poste de directeur musical du Théâtre Royal et Impérial de Vienne (Wiener Hoftheater). En 1818 succédant à Leopold (Johann Anton) Kozeluch il devient le dernier Maître de musique de chambre et compositeur de la cour des Habsbourg. Il gardera ses fonctions jusqu’à sa mort en 1831.Franz Krommer était l’un des plus illustres compositeurs tchèques de la Vienne impériale vers la fin du XVIIIe siècle. Sa musique était très appréciée de son vivant et certains le considéraient comme le digne héritier de Joseph Haydn. Son style est indéniablement apparenté à ce dernier mais aussi à celui de Mozart. Franz Krommer a composé de nombreuses symphonies des concertos (essentiellement pour instruments à vent solistes) des duos pour violons des quatuors à cordes de la musique de chambre et des œuvres sacrées. Le Concerto pour Clarinette Opus 36 de Krommer a été publié pour la première fois en 1803 chez l’éditeur allemand Johann Anton André.

In 2004 he was even awarded a Gouden Harp (Gold Harp) which is the most important prize within Dutch music. It is presented to artists and composers who have promoted Dutch light music in their own unique way during their career. Farewell Song has been taken from Der Trompetervon Säckingen by Victor E. Nessler (1841-1890). Thisopera tells the sentimental story of a plain musicianwho is eventually allowed to marry the daughter ofa baron. From the first performance in 1884 thisopera was well liked - not so much because of thestory but because of its musical features. Impressivetrumpet solos drinking songs and dance scenes werethe ingredients that enthralled audiences throughoutEurope. Today only the farewell song called JungWerner’s Abschied also known as Behüt’ dich Gott has remained an absolute winner. Wil van der Beekhas written a fine arrangement of this entitledFarewell Song. He felt itwas appropriate to entrustthe melody of this song originally written for tenorvoice to the baritone or euphonium.

Singapore Rhapsody is an exciting work in two movements based on popular Malaysian folksongs. The songs that occur in the first movement are Rasa Sayang eh (a love song) Gelang Sipaku Gelang (a song about community spirit) Suriram (a song about a girl proclaiming her virtues) and Di-Tanjung Katong (a love song that takes place at the Cape Katong on the southeast coast of Singapore). The second movement features Lenggang Kangkung which literally means “The swaying of the watercress ” Katang Lompat (a moralistic song about the symbolism of the frog) and finally Kenek kenek-lah Udang (a wedding song). Each movement of this enchanting work can be performed separately but acomplete performance will be the crowning moment of any concert.

Written for creative musicians and audiences the listener is given the opportunity of making up his own story to fit the music without even the restriction of composer’s comments.

Who did it? is a composition for youth bands with limited instrumentation. While composing it Jacob de Haan was inspired by a familiar situation: a child caught doing something mischievous such as taking another child’s toy and trying to get away with it. The other children however notice this. The fast tempo of this work reflects the chase that follows - this will be fun for all the band members.

Handel was a composer who always kept on eye on the prevailing taste political currents and latest fashion. This awareness is seen in both the Italian and English influences in his compositions with much of his music showing regal and festive characteristics.
