Junior Rock depicts two children a brother and sister who despite all their differences are both filled with the joys of life. The piece opens with a lively graceful theme depicting the light and good-natured mood that characterizes the two children playing. The music then becomes more calm and romantic in the middle passage. The piece comes to a cheerful and youthful close with the extended restatement of the earlier thematic material. It has been arranged for beginner bands and can be played with a minimum of six players (+ percussion).

A Vision of the First Light was commissioned by the Kitami Wind Ensemble as a commemorative work for their 30th Anniversary. The music is rising towards a festive celebrating fanfare before a deep tranquility descends towards the end creating a moment of reflection.

Hello is a famous pop song by the American singer Lionel Richie. The song which was one of the greatest hits of the eighties can now be considered an evergreen. Its title regularly appears in concert programs of amateur musicians. This arrangement now enables Hello to be played by accordion orchestra.

Since most of the bands competing in the 4th Section of the Dutch National Championships have many young players this piece is stylistically youthful— especially in the opening and closing sections. An arpeggio pattern appears numerous times in all registers and is the basic musical element of the main melody alternating with a second theme that has a slightly different melodic character. The middle section is conceived like a chorale introduced and developed stepwise: firstly with short patterns and gradually in increasingly long snippets until it’s played in its glorious entirety at measure 216. No real solo passages are included but rather small chambercombinations thus offering the opportunity to various players to display their technical and performance skills. The finale recaptures musical material from the first section of the piece and provides a majestic conclusion.

Impressions of a Village- Bliss: Impressions of a Village is a spectacular test piece by one of the most renowned brass band composers in Holland Jacob de Haan. It contains three impressions of a village in the beautiful Brabant province in the Netherlands. The first movement is in a very classical style which captures the village’s history appropriately. The entire band joins in as the small river approaches an ancient castle. The third movement contains lots of interesting rhythms portraying the hustle and bustle of everyday life in the village.

This work was composed as a commission by the Keika Gakuen Symphonic Band to commemorate their 40th annual concert. The composition is a march-style work that begins with a chorale based on a theme from the school song—a distinctive motif that reappears in the middle section. Tetsuya Kashino a graduate of the high school is a band coach and has a deep friendship with the composer. Kashino named the work Scent of Spring which reflects two distinct meanings—firstly in Japanese a part of the band’s own name and also “a premiere in Spring”. Scent of Spring is a bright and optimistic piece of music suitable to perform on various occasions.
