Dear Lord and Father of Mankind- Meditation is based on Dear Lord and Father of Mankind (1887) by the English composer and organist Frederick Charles Maker (1844-1927). This is a calm introverted work that however has an intense effect. In the first section the solo euphonium is given an important role leading to one of the loveliest of all English hymn melodies.

for String Orchestra-On request of Brass Band Midden Brabants chairman Robert Leveugle Jan Van der Roost composed this quiet piece with its broad tones. The source of inspiration was a visit of the composer to the beautiful cathedral of Canterbury in which so many fine compositions have sounded throughout the ages. from Requiem opus 48-Pie Jesu is the famous aria for soprano and orchestra from Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem opus 48. Fauré (1845- 1924) composed the work in 1887 two years after his father’s death and only a short time before his mother passed away. Fauré’s Pie Jesu is richly atmosphere and peaceful and Robert van Beringen perfectly captures the essence of Fauré’s beautiful music in this arrangement for fanfare band.

Musikantenmarsch-Eric J. Hovi cleverly incorporates a well-known German children’s song Ich bin ein Musikante into this march with plenty of syncopated rhythms thrown in for good measure. The simple melody and Jan de Haan’s accessible arrangement make Musicians' March an ideal piece for young musicians everywhere.

from L'elisir d'amore-Una Furtiva Lagrima is a brilliant arrangement by Jacob de Haan of the aria from Gaetano Donizetti’s opera L’Elisir d’Amore (The Elixir of Love) for concert band. The subject of this song is the power of love: Nemorino the main character of the opera sings the aria as he notices that his love potion is starting to take effect on his beloved. A furtive tear (Una Furtiva Lagrima) betrays his beloved’s feelings towards him in this emotional piece.

A Christmas Fantasy on Themes by Bach & Handel-In his own distinctive style Robert van Beringen has composed a very unique fantasy on three themes by the famous Baroque composers Johann Sebastian Bach and George Friedrich Händel. Van Beringen used Bach’s chorale Brich an o schönes Morgenlicht (‘Break forth O Beauteous Heavenly Light’) from his Christmas Oratorio and the recitative Behold a Virgin shall conceive and bear a son and shall call his name Emmanuel God with Us from Händel’s Messiah . A perfect way to say Merry Christmas in music!

Wer nur den lieben Gott lässt walten- Wer nur den lieben Gott lässt walten was composed by Georg Neumark in about 1641 and was subtitled ‘Trostlied’ literally meaning consolation song. Songbooks at the time showed the popularity of this song and it is still well-known today partly due to Johann Sebastian Bach’s use of the melody for one of his own chorals. In Jan de Haan’s arrangement the choral is heard twice once alternating with the original motif from the introduction and a second time without interruption reflecting the composer’s original intention - a song of consolation.
