The town of Guflina in Liechtenstein offers one of the best viewpoints of the magnificent Alps. Underneath the overhanging ledge there is said to have been a cave in the mountain. In it lived a terrible dragon that was on the rampage in the surrounding meadows spreading fear and terror among the population. At the same time there lived a giant man who had the strength of twelve normal men. The farmers implored him to help them in their distress. Let battle begin!

Franco Cesarini has used four anonymous renaissance pieces as the basis for this four-movement composition and by exploiting the many colours of the brass band he has recreated the atmosphere of these fascinating musical forms. A glorious renaissance-inspired piece for your band.

Concerto Grosso for Brass Band and Percussion-Landscapes is a work structured around two main ideas. On the one hand the music freely paints some of the superb landscapes I’ve seen during several of my trips around the world. Listeners should however not be influenced by this programmatic framework and are encouraged to build their own ‘mind pictures’.On the other hand Landscapes constitutes a test piece for each section of the brass band. Indeed each musical landscape highlights a particular register. A small group of soloists is given the opportunity to fully display its skills in dialogue with the rest of the band (the tutti) hence the name ‘concerto grosso’. Landscapes also relies on the band’s different soloistmusicians when it comes to express highly complex musically and technically challenging passages.

Konzert für Trompete und Klavier-A new work for trumpet and piano in three movements each with its own character. The Allegro Brillante is virtuosic in nature while the Andante Doloroso is more romantic and the final jazzy Allegro Giusto brings the work to an exciting close. This work is also available for trumpet and concert band.

This joyous fanfare offers many members of the band the opportunityto shine. The opening subject is passed from the clarinets to thesaxophones and then to the oboes before being taken up by thecomplete band. After a quiet variation from the horns the work comesto a powerful climax. A perfect concert opener that will introduce yourwhole concert band to the audience.

The Irish singer-songwriter Gilbert O’Sullivan possibly had his greatest success in 1972 with Clair. With its jazzy harmony this song deviated a little from the spirit of the time. Stefan Schwalgin took the theme of Clair as a starting point and gave the melody to the alto saxophone. His arrangement fits the tradition of solo works in which it is not so much about technical virtuosity but rather about the sincerity and charm of the expression. Let your saxophonist shine with this luscious new solo work.

This work was commissioned by the Musikkapelle Heiden Germany on the occasion of the centenary of this versatile and energetic music society. Triumphal Prelude begins with fireworks of sounds and fanfares which are worthy of a centennial. It is therefore an ideal opening work. Undoubtedly the sparkling music will enthrall the audience thanks to the dazzling sound of the Brass players - who can be heard above the radiant performance of the Woodwind players.

This composition is made up of three themes which feature all thefacets of the instrumentation of a concert band as well as that ofa big band. The symphonic passages reminiscent of film music enable the full tone and colour of the concert band to be heard whilst the big band sound is represented in the rock segments andslow swing sections. The musical journey travels along practicallyall styles ending with an impressive tutti in which the shufflerhythm of the big band melts together with the grand classic filmmusic sound of the concert band.

This piece is a great addition to the march repertoireas it combines march music with swing. Effectiveyet easy-to-play swing rhythms in 6/8 time as wellas catchy themes with blues elements give thepiece dynamism and drive. Your band and youraudience will love it!

En 1959 il compose A Summer Place le thème du film éponyme de Delmer Daves et en confie l’interprétation au Percy Faith Orchestra. Cette version sera récompensée du premier Grammy Award (1961) décerné à un thème musical. La musique est aérienne et délicieusement insouciante juste préoccupée par le bonheur qu'elle peut apporter.

The Italian film music composer Piero Umiliani originally composed Mah Na Mah Na in 1968 for the soundtrack of the Swedish movie Sweden - Heaven or Hell. However the piece only became a hit in the 1970s when Jim Henson used the catchy melody in his children’s TV series The Muppet Show and Sesame Street. Stefan Schwalgin has produced this excellent version to give baritone saxophonists who sometimes feel left out by the band’s repertoire a platform for their soloistic development. This gem is full of little musical surprises and will hold a special place in your bands repertoire.
