Brigadier is a senior military rank who typically commands a Brigade consisting of three battalions approximately 3000 soldiers. The appointment to a high-ranking officer in the Army provides a lot of Swiss communities with the opportunity to celebrate. When Heinrich Tanner was promoted to Brigadier the ‘Knabenmusik der Stadt St. Gallen’ wanted to pay tribute by dedicating a march to him. The result was this rousing march by Franco Cesarini.

The MGB March was commissioned in 2004 by the Swiss railway corporation “Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn” and first performed by the Belalp Concert Band on the occasion of a march music festival. A journey on the Swiss railway can take you through some of the worlds most beautiful scenery with one of the most spectacular journeys being through the Swiss Alps between Zermatt to Disentis and Andermatt to Göschenen. On this journey of less than 100 miles you climb over 3300 meters run through 33 tunnels cross 126 bridges and pass through 47 stations en route. This refreshing new march reflects the grand beauty of this fascinating train journey.

Ever heard of Tijuana Taxi Spanish Flea or A Taste of Honey? Even if these names do not ring a bell everyone has certainly hummed along when hearing these pieces on the radio. These titles were made famous in the 1960s by the trumpeter Herb Alpert and his band Tijuana Brass and are still extremely popular today. This arrangement is full of surprises with exciting fragments sparkling and catchy passages and colourful instrumentations. A part for electric guitar intensifies the swinging feeling of the piece but is not obligatory. This arrangement will definitely get the audience in a party mood.

This stately march was composed to mark any celebration and more specifically the anniversary of the foundation of a band. The main theme is a wonderful legato melody which is interrupted several times with flowing arpeggios. Following a regal trio melody the main theme returns with a triumphal feel. Even in the countryside the 'monster on four wheels' has already arrived and is destroying idyllic villages. In the middle of the composition we experience a traffic jam where some drivers tend to behave in a very primitive way! This work is dedicated to all those who are affected by or are suffering from the overpowering proliferation of traffic. This work will 'drive' your audiences crazy with excitement !!

Concert March-For this spirited concert march the creative and lively mind of the great Italian mathematician physicist and astronomer Galileo Galilei who lived from 1564 to 1642 served as a source of inspiration. Galileo was the founder of experimental thinking in physics and he made numerous discoveries and formulated many useful theories in this field. His reluctance to unquestioningly accept established authorities and ideas was also typical of his inventive mind. Moreover Galileo was more accessible to the common people. He tried to encourage them to think for themselves and he published his research results in the form of dialogues that were easy to understand. This accessibleconcert march - a suitable homage to Galileo - builds a bridge between the musician and the listener.

The German singer and actor Herbert Grönemeyer has remained faithful to his own style since the beginning of his career in the eighties yet still managed to further develop his craft and himself all the while remaining successful. His albums sell well and his concerts especially in Germany are frequently sold out. Wolfgang Wössner chose four diverse songs from Grönemeyer’s extensive repertoire (Männer Mensch Flugzeuge im Bauch and Mambo) creating a medley that remains exciting to the very end.

Dionysos takes a little walk - A musical satire-This work is based on the story of Dionysos the god of wine. It depicts village life in the valley of Mount Olympus. A fight disturbs cheerful dancing at the wine festival and the music becomes increasingly dominated by the main theme that depicts Dionysus himself. This impressive programmatic work is suitable for concerts or contests and offers challenges throughout the music.

This programmatic piece of music is one of the best-selling works from Otto M. Schwarz. There was a very high demand for a lower grade version to enable young and small bands to perform this epic piece. On September 19th 1991 a mummified corpse of a man was found at the Similaun glacier in the Ötztäler Alps. The glacier unveiled an early man after 5300 years with all of his personal belongings. His clothes and weapons were fairly well preserved and provide us today with a deeper insight into that period. Austrian nature filmmaker Kurt Mündel reconstructed the life of this man and made a film which Otto M. Schwarz used as an opportunity to write a work for symphonic windband and musically resurrect the “Man in the Ice- Ötzi”.

Gilbert Tinner made a medley for smaller and young bands containing the smash hits Celebration Get Down on It and Ladies’ Night . The instrumentation allows nearly any band to play this arrangement. NIGHTLIGHTS-Light sun moon stars: there has always been a connection to faith the occult and mysticism. Different constellations were supposed to predict the future and some phenomena have been interpreted as punishment by different Gods. From sunrises and solar eclipses through rainbows the scattering of light sunset in the daytime moonrises the northern lights the new moon crescent moons and stellar constellations to shooting stars… our observations encompass all this and much more. The Mystery of Light is the first of a series of pieces with the same theme. ‘NIGHTLIGHTS’ deals with lights of the night: created partly by nature and partly by man himself and consists ofthree movements: Opener and Star Shower Lunar Eclipse and Aurora and Fireworks .

Germanicus Maximus - The Limes-The walls of Babylon the Great Wall of China the limes of the Roman Empire and the Berlin Wall are just a few examples of the walls mankind has built over past centuries. Today building walls remains an issue often under the pretext of ‘protection’ against intruders. This idea inspired Otto M. Schwarz to write a piece about the Roman limes between Germania and Rhaetia. From around 150 to 260 AD the wall faced numerous attacks. This programmatic work describes the events as they happened a long time ago and addresses hope that these events belong to the past forever. The Wall is a work full of action in all-instrumental groups. This is an impressive piece with strongmusical images perfect for a contest or as an apotheosis in your concert.

Le cap Horn est le point le plus austral des terres rattachées à l’Amérique du Sud. Cap promontoire il est situé sur l’île Horn dans le sud du Chili. Pendant de nombreuses années le cap Horn a été l’un des passages les plus dangereux au monde pour les navires voulant transiter de l’océan Atlantique au Pacifique à l’ouest. Si la découverte du cap est communément attribuée à l’Anglais Sir Francis Drake qui découvrit ce passage en 1578 au cours de sa circumnavigation le navigateur néerlandais Willem Cornelisz Schouten fut le premier à franchir le cap Horn ( Kaap Hoorn ) en 1616 qu'il baptisa ainsi d’après son lieu de naissance la ville de Hoorn aux Pays-Bas. Le capHorn a la réputation d’être un cimetière marin. Plus de 800 navires et 10 000 hommes ont disparu dans les eaux glacées au moment de« doubler » le cap. Cape Horn (Le cap Horn) est une œuvre pour Cor solo et Piano. La musique reflète la beauté et les dangers de cette région. Animé par un esprit de curiosité et soucieux d’élargir le répertoire pour instrument soliste et Piano Otto M. Schwarz développe des passerelles entre les styles et les genres. La musique de film est l’expression musicale de prédilection du compositeur. L’esthétique les parties expérimentales et les lignes mélodiques palpitantes sont parfaitement caractéristiques de l’écriture du compositeur.

Once upon a time in North America there lived a mother and her small daughter who were part of a community of Ojibwa people. The girl suffered from severe nightmares. The mother sought help from ‘Spider Woman’ also known as ‘Asibikaashi’ who protected people by weaving a magical web. This ‘dreamcatcher’ decorated with sacred feathers only let good dreams through and the bad dreams were burnt by the morning sunbeams. During this fascinating programme work one can follow the story meticulously making it a true phantasmal concert experience!
