Trio for Horns and Brass Band-This composition highlights the tenor horns. Long understated and unfairly relegated to the accompaniment the tenor horn has gained prominence in the brass band during recent years.Horns Enjoying Themselves is an entertaining piece that will delight performers and audience alike. The first part is inspired by circus with playful themes featuring humorous dissonances. The second part is a slow and calm journey through the mellow and luminous sound colours of the tenor horn. The third and last movement opens with a cadenza played by the soloists (alone). Written in triple time it showcases the technical skills of the soloists.

For someone like Franco Cesarini who was born and raised in a land where every horizon is dominated by the majestic Alps mountains are in one’s heart and soul every moment of life. The true spirit of mountains is described in the words of Alan Hovhaness: “Mountains are symbolic meeting places between the material and the spiritual world.” It is a sentiment with which the composer fully agrees which also helps explain the titles of succeeding episodes of the composition. These episodes alternate moments of reality of matter and with those of the ethereal the spirit. Mountain Majestic is the fascinating final movement from the epic work Poema Alpestre published separately inthis edition for concert band. Breath a breath of fresh mountain air into your concert with this emotive work.

Evil people know no songs! Inspiration for this work was taken from the legend of the Valley of the Mills in which a traveller taught songs to the people of a village who had been put under a spell by a monk for their violation of moral standards. He brought song and prosperity back to the valley. It is this enchanting story which shows the positive power of music that Thomas Doss used as the basis for this splendid concert work which will be loved by all who perform it and listen to it.
