Tatort (Scene of the Crime) Derrick and Ein Fall für zwei (A Case for Two) are three classic crime series on German television. Two of the themes are from the pen of Klaus Doldinger and the third theme Derrick was written by Les Humphries an Englishman who had great success with the Les Humphries Singers. In Crime Scene Stefan Schwalgin has faithfully adapted the original sound of the melodies to produce a thrilling medley.

Inspiration for this work was taken from the legend of the Valley of the Mills in which a traveller taught songs to the people of a village who had been put under a spell by a monk for their violation of moral standards. He brought song and prosperity back to the valley. It is this enchanting story which shows the positive power of music that Thomas Doss used as the basis for this splendid concert work which will be loved by all who perform it and listen to it.

Marsch-Ernst Uebel (1882-1959) was born in Klingenthal in Vogtland (Germany) where he spent most of his life working as an instrument maker and conducted the municipal concert band a task he performed for more than 30 years. In the year 1926 Ernst Uebel composed the march Jubelklänge and gained worldwide fame with it. The march with its beautiful melodies and exciting drive was played at many occasions around the world including the coronation festivities for Queen Elizabeth II in London and the Winter Olympics in Sapporo. In this arrangement the march has been adapted to suit the demands of a modern concert band whilst successfully maintaining the traditional character of theoriginal.

Die Legende von der weißen Jungfrau zur Kugelsburg-The programmatic composition Of Castles and Legends is basedon the German legend of the white maiden who lived in the smallcity of Volkmarsen. It tells the tale of invading evil knights whokidnap a beautiful maiden who through sheer panic commandedher spirit into the hands of God and by jumping into the abyss fromthe highest tower of the castle where she was being held. Fromthat day onward she appeared from time to time in shiny whitegarments a sign of eternal heavenly joy. A fantastically descriptivepiece which portrays this tragic legend through the power of music.

Wingin’ It! is an entertaining concert piece. It makesespecially high demands on the rhythmic qualities ofthe band and requires exact articulation and phrasingaccording to the composer’s instructions. As the title implies this composition is a bass section feature with a bit of a difference. In addition to modern spiritedpassages which demonstrate the bass sections virtuositythere are also slower sections which are reminiscent of agospel choir! A great way of showcasing your bass section.
