He is said to have been a poor priest who healed a blind girl and gave flowers from his garden to those who sought help and comfort. Saint Valentine’s day has been celebrated in February each year since the 14th century as a day devoted to love. This work is written in the style of a chorale and has a light touch of romance!

In 2005 the re-release of the original Tony Christie version promoted by the comedian Peter Kaye was Britain’s best-selling single. Stefan Schwalgin’s expert arrangement will certainly spice up any concert.

Tatort (Scene of the Crime) Derrick and Ein Fall für zwei (A Case for Two) are three classic crime series on German television. Two of the themes are from the pen of Klaus Doldinger and the third theme Derrick was written by Les Humphries an Englishman who had great success with the Les Humphries Singers. In Crime Scene Stefan Schwalgin has faithfully adapted the original sound of the melodies to produce a thrilling medley.

Generations Fanfare was written in a film-musical style on commission for the Bezirksblasmusikverband (Wind Music Federation) Imst in Tirol Austria. The composer Otto M. Schwarz composed this grade 3-4 standard piece in an attempt to make his film-musical language accessible to concert bands. In the distance trumpets and percussion make their melodic entrance followed by the whole band. This opening piece is appropriate for every festive occasion.

The flowing rhythm of the samba is often tempestuous and fast but it always moves within a steady tempo. The samba like running water can murmur swell sparkle and develop into a fierce element. It is always in motion. Inspired by this principle Gilbert Tinner composed the work Sparkling Samba. Supported by a lively rhythm section all the sections of the band dance on the waves of the samba style!

American author Mark Twain spent seven years writing Huckleberry Finn - the book Hemingway claimed is the basis for all American fiction. The story of Huck's and Jim's quest for freedom on a raft on the Mississippi provides a panoramic view of Southern society which Twain saw as beset by greed violence and coldhearted brutality in the guise of virtue. At the end of the book Huck definitively abandons the hypocrisy and cant on which he has been raised when he makes the shocking decision to go to hell rather than betray his friend Jim and send him back to slavery. This suite portrays all the adventure of this great romantic novel and will delight performers and audiencealike.

Anton Bruckner is probably best known today as a symphonist however he was also a significant composer of religious works motets and masses and the composer of the great Te Deum. These choral works portray equally as much of Anton Bruckner’s power as his symphonies. With his unique gift for unlocking the secret and beauty of choir singing he was a true master in this genre. This arrangement for concert band by Thomas Doss retains the character and homogeneity of the original choral work and is a stunning addition to the concert band repertoire..

Trumpets and Bridges was composed to celebrate the opening ofa new bridge linking Austria with Germany. This bridge is a symbolfor the meeting of cultures and the lifting of borders. In the thirdmillennium geographical and political borders are losing theirmeaning and often they cause senseless suffering. Music is the bestevidence against the necessity of borders. Music is more global andinternational than any other language because it is understood inthe heart where no boundaries exist.

Pour célébrer son 85e anniversaire l’Harmonie Municipale de Forbach (1923-2008) a passé commande d’une œuvre au compositeur autrichien Otto M. Schwarz. Réputé pour ses grandes fresques historiques Otto M. Schwarz a choisi de créer un portrait musical d’un des personnages les plus célèbres et les plus controversés de l’histoire de France : Napoléon Bonaparte. Fidèle à son style d’écriture hautement descriptif et expressif Otto M. Schwarz livre une œuvre dont l’esthétique la structure et les lignes mélodiques s’apparentent aux caractéristiques de la musique de film. De l’Histoire avec un grand H nous passons à la musique avec un grand M. Né à Ajaccio en Corse le 15août 1769 Napoléon acquiert une notoriété aujourd'hui universelle pour son génie militaire et politique. Général puis Premier consul il se fait sacrer Empereur des Français en 1804. Napoléon met en place de nombreuses réformes de l’État dont certaines sont encore en vigueur aujourd’hui telles que le principe de la liberté religieuse et la séparation de l’Église et de l’État. Ses campagnes militaires et guerres (Italie Espagne Égypte Pays-Bas etc.) ont redessiné une nouvelle carte européenne. La désastreuse campagne de Russie et la bataille de Leipzig (contre une coalition européenne réunissant la Russie la Suède la Prusse et l’Autriche) marqueront la fin du règne napoléonien. Il abdique à Fontainebleau le 6 avril 1814 et est envoyé en exil sur l’île d’Elbe en Méditerranée. Mais le 1er mars 1815 l'empereur déchu qui n’a jamais renoncé au pouvoir rejoint le continent puis Paris et instaure un régime constitutionnel connu sous le nom des Cent-Jours. Réunie au Congrès de Vienne la coalition européenne formée par la Russie la Prusse le Royaume-Uni et l’Autriche décide d’intervenir militairement. Napoléon est définitivement vaincu le 18 juin 1815 lors de la légendaire bataille de Waterloo en Belgique.
