Song of Night-Cantus is the Latin word for song - and so this piece is a meditation set to music in a melodious vocal style. It should motivate both players and audience to turn their gaze inward to switch off and let themselves be carried away by the music to find an inner rest thatopens up a window to the ‘Self’. Cantus will add a touch of tranquillity and well being to any concert. The printed edition of Cantus contains a CD with sounds of the ocean that can be played during the performance.

Dix-neuf ans

Arranged and Performed by Franco Cesarini-It is often the case that at the end of a concert a soloist is requested to perform an additional item not listed in the programme in other words an encore. In general the piece that is chosen is short and emphasises the expressive qualities of theinstrument as well as the musical ability of the soloist. In this collection you will find a series of works that are suitable as encore pieces due to their duration and technical content. On the CD which accompanies this book you will find acomplete recording of each piece which you can use as a guide before performing the solo part with the piano accompaniment.

The power of this bright fanfare reflects the optimism joy and commitment to tradition that the people of the Italian town of Schlanders have deep within their souls. The golden trumpets from the valleys of South Tyrol echo across the mountains on both sides of the Austrian-Italian border and help to convey the composer's message: just as the sun shines on all parts of the world music knows no boundaries. This message echoes throughout this brilliant fanfare.

This light-hearted cheerful Christmas classic was written by the American composer Leroy Anderson. According to reports he wrote this piece during a heat wave in July 1948. Mitchell Parish wrote the lyrics to the music in 1950. Since then many famous artists have recorded and performed this song including the Carpenters Ella Fitzgerald and Diana Ross. This Sleigh Ride arrangement by Stefan Schwalgin is close to the original and will be a great addition to any Christmas Concert.

This stately march was composed to mark any celebration and more specifically the anniversary of the foundation of a band. The main theme is a wonderful legato melody which is interrupted several times with flowing arpeggios. Following a regal trio melody the main theme returns with a triumphal feel. A great new march for use at any celebration.

Unsere schönsten Weihnachtslieder-Most of the German carols that are still popular today date from the period between the 17th and the early 19th centuries. Thus only very few modern musical approaches to these songs can be found. Stefan Schwalgin has taken the opportunity to give five well-known German Christmas melodies a new sound in this colourful modern arrangement. Contains: Silent Night Ihr Kinderlein kommet Zu Bethlehem geboren Alle Jahre wieder and O du fröhliche. At a little bit of German Christmas spirit with this beautiful medley.

Toccata e Fantasia was inspired by the composers’ love of Anton Bruckner’s fantastic wind instrument scoring in his symphonies. Within Toccata e Fantasia Thomas Doss has used several of Bruckner’s motifs. In addition to these obvious references you will also find hints of Eastern music with the small motifs being repeated again and again in a sort of Indian guru’s mantra and an improvised blues section with a Big Band feel! A unique concert work that will thrill your audience.

(Is This the Way to) Amarillo was first recorded in 1971 by Tony Christie and was a great hit throughout Europe. In 2005 the re-release of the original Tony Christie version promoted by the comedian Peter Kaye was Britain’s best-selling single. The catchy melody of the chorus is also widely sung by sports fans and in 2006 it was played at the Football World Cup Final in Berlin. Stefan Schwalgin’s expert arrangement will certainly spice up any concert.

Concerto Grosso for Brass Band and Percussion-Landscapes is a work structured around two main ideas. On the one hand the music freely paints some of the superb landscapes I’ve seen during several of my trips around the world. Listeners should however not be influenced by this programmatic framework and are encouraged to build their own ‘mind pictures’.On the other hand Landscapes constitutes a test piece for each section of the brass band. Indeed each musical landscape highlights a particular register. A small group of soloists is given the opportunity to fully display its skills in dialogue with the rest of the band (the tutti) hence the name ‘concerto grosso’. Landscapes also relies on the band’s different soloistmusicians when it comes to express highly complex musically and technically challenging passages.

8 Konzertstücke für Klarinette und Klavier-The pieces in Schönbrunn Gardens are written by young Austrian composers who continue the old tradition of Vienna as a music metropolis. These easy to intermediate pieces cover a wide range of styles and so are ideal for working on aspects such as dynamics phrasing and articulation. At the same time they are excellent performance pieces. On the enclosed CD professional musicians have recorded their interpretation of each piece as an example; then every player is invited to give his or her own interpretation with the play-along version. The piano accompaniment allows you to play the pieces together with a pianist which is educationally even more valuable.

Ellens Gesang/ Hymne an die Jungfrau Op. 52 Nr. 6-The Ave Maria by Franz Schubert is known and loved worldwide and was originally written as part of the song cycle The Lady of the Lake . In the course of time the German text has been replaced by the traditional Latin prayer so often that the song has become known as the Ave Maria by Schubert. This lyrical melody stirring in its simplicity is complemented by a murmuring accompaniment that imitates a harp a feature that Thomas Doss fully does justice to in this arrangement.
