The Tiger is a 1995 piece based on the poem The Tiger by William Blake though it is not a straightforward setting of the work. Part of the poem appears in English and a second part in French German Italian and Spanish. The entire poem appears in a compressed central section which has been extracted for a shorter version entitled The Tiglet.British composer Giles Swayne broke into international consciousness with his huge work CRY for twenty-eight amplified Voices premiered by the BBC Singers. He has written many works for Chorus among his oeuvre. Swayne has travelled extensively in Ghana and Senegal and the percussiveness of The Tiger clearly manifests that influence.

Nobody Does It Better sung by Carly Simon came from the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me . Marvin Hamlisch and Carole Bayer Sager’s song marked the first time a bond song had not shared its title with that of the film - since the tradition started. It stood as an excellent pop song in its own right and has endured as Carly Simon’s longest-charting hit and the title of her greatest hits album. This choral version has been arranged for mixed voice SAB choir with Piano accompaniment by Thomas Lydon.

A unique guide to teaching unaccompanied singing! Gitika Partington's a cappella arrangements are used by youth and community choirs around the world. Gitika believes in the sensational power of group singing bringing people together to express joy and celebration through song. Not being able to read music is no obstacle and Gitika's tips and the original arrangements included here demonstrate just how rewarding and inclusive teaching a cappella by ear and gesture can be! Gitika Partington is a singer/songwriter vocal arranger teacher and choral director. She has an MA in choral education and holds many other musical qualifications. Sheruns regular 'popular and world style' singing workshops as well as national training sessions for adults and children. In addition she runs three adult community choirs where all the music is learned by ear and is mostly self arranged. One of Gitika's major loves is a cappella vocal arranging which she does for her three choirs and her vocal workshops. Her arrangements are used by youth and community choirs across the UK and internationally. This book contains the first of many of her arrangements she would like to share even more widely. She is a member of the Natural Voice Practitioner Network an organisation that believes in singing as a spontaneous way of expressing joy celebration and grief and as a medium for binding communities together. Gitika shares the network's belief that singing together should be available to all and is not about having 'a good voice'. All of her groups are non-audition and open to anyone who wants to sing.

The Novello Barbershop series offers unaccompanied arrangements of a variety of well-loved songs from the 1940s to the 1970s. Arranger Nicholas Hare has endeavoured to share the interest among all the voice parts but each singer should be aware at all times of who has the melody so that it is allowed to stand out. A discreet use of soloists is often appropriate. Blend and balance of the harmony is another vital element in successful performance of this music and vibrato should be kept in check so that the chords are clean and perfectly in tune. The various vocalisations (ah ooh mm etc.) may be considered as suggestions only and variedaccording to the performance conditions. Arranged specifically for male-voice groups (from as few as four voices in some numbers to a full choir) the songs are notated on two staves for easy Piano rehearsal.

The Saeviat Tellus Inter Rigores makes substantial virtuosic demands in the Soprano solo part. It is written in six movements very specifically for the Order of Carmelites.Handel's early musical life in Hamburg led him to an encounter with a member of the de Medici family who may have inspired him to make his seminal visits to Italy beginning in 1706. Surprisingly in view of his Lutheranism Handel's first compositions in Italy were for the church including this motet written for the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and performed in 1707.

Ian Venables' The Song Of The Severn is a cycle of songs in celebration of Worcestershire scored for Baritone Voice String Quartet and Piano. The Song of the Severn…clothes poems by Masefield Housman John Drinkwater and Philip Worner in sharply memorable music of bewitching lyricism idiomatic grace and rapt instinct…No lover of the early-20th-century English art song or pastoral tradition should fail to investigate this notable issue. - Andrew Achenbach Gramophone These five songs for voice with piano and string quartet accompaniment take the Severn River and itshistorical and natural associations as a common theme. They are absolutely stunning in their poignant beauty their profoundly noble and moving sense of tragedy and desolation that never turns sentimental or lachrymose and their perfect union of text and music to a level that rivals Schubert and Mahler. - James A.
