Peter Dickinson 's Celebration Trio (2009) for Clarinet Violin and Piano. The trio comprises of three pieces - Fugue Lullaby and Dance . ' These three pieces derive froma story by the British poet John Heath-Stubbs (1918-2006) called The Unicorns. Two unicorns are discovered ina remote part of Africa. The two countries Eastland and Westland want to obtain specimens for research sothey send out competing expeditions. The Westland technique is to lure the unicorn with a young girl singing - the Lullaby. The Eastland team uses a dancer so that theunicorn impales itself on a tree – the Dance. Both teams are successful in capturing a unicorn but the mythical animals fall in love andescape happily together in the end.In the story the Fugue celebrates the eventual capture of the unicorns but it is placed first here as a celebration of the remarkable career of the Verdehr Trio. Since theybegan in 1972 they have commissioned over 230 works have performed all over the world and made recordings. Asa result they have virtually created the repertoire forthe medium of violin clarinet and piano. I much enjoyed writing my American Trio(Hymns Rags and Blues) for the Trio in 1985; they played it all over the world andhave recorded it; and this Celebration Triois a tribute to their musicianship andphenomenal enterprise ' - Peter Dickinson . The Te Deum Laudamus is a single movement Choral work and was Sullivan’s last completed composition. In one movement the composer moves through all the component parts of the mass drawing them together seamlessly and expressing Sullivan’s own deeply felt faith.Composer Arthur Sullivan is known the world over for his operatic collaborations with W S Gilbert including H M S Pinafore and The Pirates of Penzance among many others. But Sullivan was also a composer of many other works among them operas Orchestral works ballets and hymns and church pieces.Among his church works Sullivan is best known for his hymn Onward Christian Soldiers and the theme of that hymn isincorporated in this Te Deum. Sullivan wrote the work on request for a Thanksgiving Service held in St Paul’s Cathedral at the close of the Boer War in South Africa. It received its first performance in 1902 in the presence of King Edward VII and other members of the royal family. That the song of thanksgiving was composed nearly two years before the end of the war perhaps demonstrated Sullivan’s patriotism.

Commissioned to commemorate his 30 years of living at Highgrove House Prince Charles saw Highgrove Suite premiered at Covent Garden on his sixtieth birthday by the royal harpist Claire Jones and the Philharmonia Orchestra. Iain Farrington 's Bluesday for solo Organ. Composed in 2010. Dedicated to Robert Houssart. ' Judging by this bunch of new public­ations the year 2010 was a busy one for British composers of organ music though quite why it has taken six or seven years for almost all of this music to appear remains unexplained. And if one were asked to guess the most recent work in terms of 'modem language' it would be this study from Iain Farrington. Dedicated to Robert Houssart this short piece combines - as one might infer from the title - certain phraseology from musical worlds not often encountered on a concert organ whether in a church or civicbuilding but it is not merely the thematic line (such as it is) that snakes in an un­certain manner but also the impacted sense of occasional harmony that speaks in a more modem musical language. None the less this intriguing composition would work best on a small instrument and is a fascinating piece to study at home. ' - James Palmer

Blue Moon written by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart in 1934 has had many treatments over the decades. Mel Tormé made a smooth hit version in the 1940s Elvis Presley put it on his first album in 1956 and The Marcels had a doo-wop hit with it in 1961 but ‘An American Werewolf in London’ was the first movie to associate this most romantic of songs with lycanthropy. This brand new arrangement by Simon Foxley & Christopher Hussey for SAB choir makes the evocative standard a welcome addition to the Novello Choral Pops series.

Henry Purcell (1659-1695) held numerous appointments at the Royal Court and Westminster Abbey and is considered by many to be the greatest ever English-born composer. His prolific work covered all fields: orchestral ecclesiastical operatic theatrical incidental and chamber music were all enriched by his output. Written in 1683 Welcome To All The Pleasure (Z339) is the first of the three Odes that Purcell wrote for St Cecilia's Day. It was commissioned by the London Music Society for their first festival and sets a poem by Christopher Fishburn. It is scored for SATB Chorus; Alto Tenor and Bass soloists; and Strings.
