Mendelssohn particularly loved Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream having read it with his sister from childhood. His incidental music for the play ranks among the best of its genre skillfully generating the spirit of each of the characters establishing ambiences for the various scenes and complement Shakespeare’s own drama. Mendelssohn’s music for this play is best known for the famous Wedding March though the work contains an array of beautiful music. The instrumental movements are frequently performed as an Orchestral suite or as stand-alone pieces. In spite of its title You Spotted Snakes is a lively lullabye sung to Titania in Act II. It is during this sleep thatOberon enchants Titania and all the rest of the action unfolds. You Spotted Snakes is scored for solo Voices SA with Voices SSAA and Piano accompaniment.

I responded to this exciting but rather daunting commission by writing a very lively and I hope very accessible piece which I decided before I started composing should be full of tunes. I wrote it in memory of my dear friend Sheila MacCrindle who died in 1993... although this Partita is in her memory it never occurred to me to make it gloomy or dirge-like; that is not how I remember her.' Richard Rodney Bennett. Partita for Orchestra by Richard Rodney Bennett was commissioned by British Telecommunications plc in co-operation with the Association of British Orchestras to be performed by seventeen different orchestras between October 1995 and July 1996. Duration: c.17mins. Trio (Op. 10) was composed c.1940 and first published in 1943. It is scored for Clarinet Cello and Piano. One of Frankel’s earliest works it is light and pleasing showing how the composer was first influenced by jazz and classical chamber music before he later turned to larger symphonic works and started experimenting with serialism. Benjamin Frankel (1906-1973) was a British composer and musician. He is best remembered for writing over one hundred film and television scores including The Man In The White Suit and The Battle Of The Bulge but he also wrote eight symphonies and many smaller works such as his Violin Sonata and Concerto which were written for Max Rostal.

When music-lover Carl Zulehner from Mainz delivered the manuscript of this ‘Mozart’ mass to the publishers it was accepted published and was performed. It was later popular in the Victorian era particularly in England. However when Zulehner was challenged about its authenticity he did not come forward with Mozart’s own manuscript. It is possible that Zulehner forged the work himself.Scholars also suggest attribution to Wenzel Müller a Viennese composer of light opera. However many works have been wrongly attributed to Mozart for many reasons. This particular one enjoyed a great following and the Gloria movement is still performed frequently and to greateffect particularly by amateur choirs.

Footsteps by Owain Park was commissioned by Tenebrae with generous assistance from Arts Council England PRS for Music Foundation Santander Discovery Foundation Grant Britten-Pears Foundation and The Fidelio Charitable Trust. The work for unaccompanied mixed choirs explores the themes of travel solitude and journeying. Owain Park says: Footsteps is the result of many months of researching texts to structure a narrative that cycles the seasons through the view of a lonely traveller who is constantly being moved on before being allowed to settle finding comfort in the sky and stars above.” Footsteps by Owain Park was commissioned by Tenebrae with generous assistance from Arts Council England PRS for Music Foundation Santander Discovery Foundation Grant Britten-Pears Foundation and The Fidelio Charitable Trust.
