Purcell Society Volume 22B (Hardback)- Duets Dialogues And Trios (Vol. 22B) is the complete and authoritative collection of all the duets dialogues and trios for Voice written by Purcell . It has been re-edited by Ian Spink (1932-2011) a noted musicologist and academic in the field of 17th Century English music. Henry Purcell (1659-1695) held numerous appointments at the Royal court and Westminster Abbey and is considered by many to be the greatest ever English-born composer. His prolific work covered all fields: orchestral ecclesiastical operatic theatrical incidental and chamber music were all enriched by his output. This hardback edition is one of aseries of volumes published by the Henry Purcell Society that cover the complete works of the composer.

Nicholas Hare 's beautifully crafted arrangements for SSAA are suitable for anything from four to four hundred singers. He has added helpful performance notes for each of the songs and the arrangements are notated on two staves for easy Piano rehearsal. The sound of a Ladies' Barbershop singing this smooth tune with romantic overtones and heart rendingundertones would be a memorable event for all involved. Composer's Note: A Celestial Map of the Sky commissioned by The Manchester Grammar School on the occasion of its quincentenary takes its cue from two woodcuts engraved by the German polymath Albrecht Durer in 1515 the same year in which school was founded. These two groundbreaking polar projections of the northern and southern celestial hemispheres are the oldest printed European star charts. Whereas prior celestial projections sometimes depicted allegorical figures looking over the skies Durer instead honoured four ancient astronomers by depicting them at their work overseeing his maps. The various texts I have chosen (mostly extractions from larger works) reflect the changing worldview hinted at in Durer's charts. A Letter Of Rights is a work by Tarik O'Regan a Cantata for SATB Chorus Strings and Percussion. Commissioned by Salisbury Cathedral to mark the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta it received its first performance on 13th June 2015 at Salisbury Cathedral. This is the Vocal Score . With words by Alice Goodman the Cantata explores the clauses of the Magna Carta which deal with legal process and the palindromic structure weaves its way through a story which begins with the parchment itself. A full performance of this work lasts around 35 minutes.

It is hoped that The Village Organist may supply this want so much felt by that valuable and zealous class of church-workers to whom the work is inscribed. The editors have endeavoured to bring together a collection of pieces which they trust will prove to be at once simple without being uninteresting and effective where the instrumental resources are limited.

Quo Vadis is a work that in its aim design and achievement reaches for visionary heights. Right from the start Dyson 's harmonic language and skilful orchestration are completely at the service of his beautiful and carefully crafted libretto. The composer fervently believed in the English choral movement's need for practical tuneful and lively music. Quo Vadis with its colourful orchestration and fine melodies demonstrates the effectiveness of this aestheticapproach. Arranged for SATB Chorus and Orchestra this major yet often overlooked piece lasts about 90 minutes in 9 movements. Sir George Dyson was a well-known English musician and composer of the 20th century. His compositions include a symphony in G major a violin concerto and a number of other works many of them for choir. Apart from his musical career Dyson was involved with the military during WWI – his handbook on grenade-fighting techniques became the standard Army text for many years.
