Cyril Scott was an English composer writer and poet. He was essentially a late romantic composer whose style was at the same time strongly influenced by impressionism. His harmony was notably exotic. Scott wrote around four hundred works which include two mature symphonies three operas three Piano concertos concertos for Violin Cello Oboe and Harpsichord several overtures four oratorios as well as a mass of chamber music. Scott is undoubtedly best known for the solo Piano piece Lotus Land which is transcribed here for two Pianos. LotusLand seems impossibly modern for 1905 and additionally possesses a preternatural sense of jazziness. It has been recorded over fifty times both in its original form for Piano and in a wide variety of arrangements from vocals to jazz groups and from Brass bands to Synthesizer. Later Scott also wrote a poem with the same name.

The Dorchester Canticles were commissioned by the Bournemouth Sinfonietta Choir with funds from Arts Council England. Received its première in St Mary's Church Dorchester in a performance on 22nd May 2004 conducted byDavid Gostick. The piece includes the options of Harp and Percussion players to ad lib.

This work was composed for the Young People's Chorus Of New York and based upon an anonymous 18th Scottish ballad Sweet William's Ghost . The work was first performed by the Young People's Chorus Of New York at the Ethical Culture Society on 25th April 2004.

Beethoven's Mass In C was commissioned by Prince Nikolaus Esterhazy for the name-day of his wife Princess Maria and was first performed on 13 September 1807. Beethoven's setting continues the series of six great Masses composed by Haydn in previous years for the same occasion. King Arthur was the only one of Purcell's professionally produced operas to have been designed as a semi-opera; the others were all adaptations of earlier plays. Dryden made a real attempt to integrate the music into the drama but since he ascribed to the dramatic conventions of the period which virtually confined music to allegorical or supernatural beings and thier worshippers or servants shepherds and similar characters the main action mostly occurs in the spoken sections and even the two singing characters Philidel and Grimbald speak more than they sing.

Edward MacDowell (1860-1908) was an American pianist and composer in the Romantic style. By far and away his most popular work today is To A Wild Rose a beautifully simple and reflective piece for solo Piano taken from his Woodland Sketches (Op. 51). This little gem deserves to be better known and will enrich the repertoire of any pianist whether professional or recreational.
