It is hoped that The Village Organist may supply this want so much felt by that valuable and zealous class of church-workers to whom the work is inscribed. The editors have endeavoured to bring together a collection of pieces which they trust will prove to be at once simple without being uninteresting and effective where the instrumental resources are limited.

Prayer To The Infant Jesus was written in 1968 setting a translation of a Czech text. It is dedicated to Sheila Mossman and the Orpington Junior Singers and is scored for unaccompanied SSAA Upper Voice Choir. Sir Arthur Bliss (1891-1975) was a British composer and conductor. He studied under Wood and Stanford at Cambridge and the Royal College of Music where he met and drew inspiration from Vaughan Williams Holst Howells and Goossens. He was appointed Master of the Queen’s Music in 1953 and wrote music for many state occasions including the Queen's Coronation and the Funeral of Winston Churchill.

' Almost a century before Rutter's piece was composed this equally brief - and not wholly dissimilar - work appeared. Marked Molto semplice in 3/8 time Howells's piece has fluently original harmonic interest and concentrates its simple initial idea with attractively­flowing momentum. The Premier Performance Took Place On The 14Th Of January 2015 Performed By The Navarra Quartet At The Bridgewater Hall In Manchester. The Piece Is Divided Into Three Distinct Movements Each Developing And Changing What Has Come Before. When Commenting On His Compositional Process For String Quartet Gregson Noted That He Desired To Return To The Classical Principles Of Beethoven And Bartok Deciding To Include Extended Sonata Variation And Rondo Forms.
