French composer Henri Busser entered the Paris Conservatoire in 1889. He won the 1893 Prix de Rome and led a highly successful career as a composer conductor teacher and organist. for Tuba Bass Saxhorn or Bass Trombone and Piano- To this day Eugène Bozza (1905-1991) remains one of the most prolific composers for wind instruments despite being a violinist himself. His Thème Varié for Tuba Bass Saxhorn or Bass Trombone with Piano accompaniment is an exquisite and unique addition to the repertoire. During his studies at the Paris Conservatoire Bozza won prizes for Violin conducting and composition as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. He then conducted the orchestra of the Opéra-Comique and became Head of the Conservatoire in Valenciennes whilst remaining a prominent composer. Composed in 1957 Bozza 's Thème Varié reflects the composer's ability to compose for a variety of instrumentations. As music educationalist Paul Griffiths has written of Bozza 's compositions 'his works reveal melodic fluency elegance of structure and a consistenly sensitive concern of instrumental capabilities.'

Italian clarinetist and composer Ernesto Cavallini (1807-1874) studied at the Milan Conservatory. He has been described as the 'Paganini of the Clarinet' therefore it is no surprise that his studies for the instrument such as 30 Caprices are very well-informed. Volume 2 of Cavallini 's 30 Caprices contains caprices 19 to 30. All of the studies are virtuosic addressing features including chromaticism scales articulation a wide range breath control intervals variations in performance directions dynamics and tempo differing key signatures and time signatures complex rhythms and ornamentation amongst other aspects. Composed in 1956 by Henri Tomasi (1901-1971) French composer conductor and winner of the Grand Prix de Rome in 1927 this Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra has a strong French signature and lasts 16 minutes. The first movement starts with the Trombone and ends with a waltz theme the second movement is built on an ostinato that makes the Trombone sound more lyrical. The third movement is based on the two first ones with South American rhythms and ends with a virtuosic part played by the Trombone.
