He composed many works related to ornithology and birdsong including the 'Bird Catalogue' in 7 volumes and the 'Treatise on Rhythm Colour and Ornithology' in 7 volumes.

Born in March 1955 in Algiers Thierry Alla did the greater part of his studies at the University of Tours and the Conservatoire of Bordeaux where he was marked by Michel Fusté-Lambezat's teaching of musical composition and the discovery of Electroacoustics with Christian Eloy. His double career as musicologist (with a thesis on Tristan Murail) and composer allows him to explore spectral music such as in Sanctuaires a 2009 concerto for Saxophone and orchestra that delves into micro-intervals. Composed two years later Birds for AltoSaxophone and Electroacoustics explores a lush sound universe that holds its own in a rich tradition that goes from Josquin Desprez to Rameau to Messiaen. The Saxophone's evocative sounds obtained using diverse techniques (flatterzunge breath techniques keys sounds) mingle with those of the Electroacoustic recording and weave a dense polyphony. Far from servile imitation this evocation of birdsong reveals a sound imagination that is breathtakingly sensual: this abundance is life itself.

In L'Ange pleureur (The Weeping Angel) a poem by Edmond Borsent there are no tears but much irony as the chubby cherub frets over the dark deeds committed by the soul he must guard! Ronsard's Verses take a delicately archaic style to illustrate the poet's desire for young Angevin peasant girl Marie Dupin: starting out as pious believers they soon frolic under the sheets as lovers. An excerpt from Rymes written by Pernette du Guillet a poetess from Lyon about whomvery little is known La Faute en est à toi (Love Blame Yourself) brings a Renaissance feel to the graceful crochet-half note rhythm with this third melody following in the footsteps of Ravel and Poulenc. During his studies pianist and composer Florian Nagel drew on the teachings of two masters with diametrically opposed approaches to music: according to him Marcel Bitsch brought him wisdom and Claude Ballif folly. He has written numerous pieces for the piano along with vocal and chamber music. His first international success came with Alice in Wonderland for piano four hands and narrator an orchestral version of which was premiered in March 2018 by the Orchestra national du Capitole de Toulouse.
