1600 Exercises - Intonation Rhythm And Tonality (Vol.1 - 1000 Exercises) is the first of a method in two volumes written by Jules Arnoud featuring 1000 exercises out of a set of 1600. This highly progressive method was written and tailored for music theory students starting from beginner level to help them acquire the basics of rhythm tonality and intonation. Its very first lesson is about discovering the different notes on the stave and each theme focuses on a special rhythm which gets introduced by a preparatory exercise before a lesson on the subject and more exercises for application. This first volume is followedby the second one which includes the last 600 exercises of the method.

The unacquainted listener upon hearing a piece from the Hahn piano repertoire is often surprised by its powerful charm - a testament to the composer's unique musical sensibility. Although some of Hahn's musical ideas have roots in the long tradition of Romanticism they also present a host of new images scarcely seen in earlier scores Each piece in this collection is based on a single formula that varies little from start to finish. An exception to this unique principle occurs in the IInd piece where the young woman takes fright at the flaming red eye of the setting sun watching her through the branches. As a conclusion Reynaldo Hahn offers avery free cadence that takes up and comments on the initial theme: the crackling notes culminate in a fortissimo blaze rapidly followed by a progressive lull that slowly fades away. Or Organ-Born in Geneva of a jeweller father (and excellent flautist) and singer mother Marguerite Roesgen-Champion (1894-1976) was one of those rare women who reconciled family life (in 1926 she settled in Paris with her husband a philately merchant) with a professional activity devoted to music. Her abundant output graced all genres with a predilection for sacred pieces the art song the piano and chamber music. Published respectively in 1950 and 1953 the two Nocturnes for oboe and piano (or organ) have their place in the glorious tradition of French music from the between-the-wars period. The first Nocturne subtitled 'Noël' is dedicated to Pierre Bajeux (1899-1961) whotaught the oboe class at the Paris Conservatoire as of 1941. Of classic ABA construction this piece as simple as it is expressive is in the form of a pastorale: here the gentle opening recitative unfolds its dreamy melancholic volutes of which the modal character would have appealed to Charles Koechlin. The second Nocturne presents subtle modulations that give it a refined elegance. In both cases this tastefully polished music invites us to stroll in an Arcadian landscape bathed in azure: 'There all is order and beauty / Luxury calm and voluptuousness'. Pages From A Love Diary- What's important in music that's based on a poem - on the emotion inspired by a poem - is the music and power of emotion it harbours within itself. These words written in 1949 by poet Pierre Reverdy would make a deep impression on composer Betsy Jolas . She'd just sent the writer her Six mélodies for mezzo-soprano and piano composed on poems from his masterwork Plupart du temps. The songs were accompanied by a letter that betrayed her fear of distorting his ideas. In creative terms there was no need to worry - Betsy Jolas must have placed this conviction at the heart of her reflection on therelation between text and music. Nearly sixty years later the musician decided to take several fragments of these beloved poems of Reverdy and place them in the form of quotations into new musical and theatrical perspectives. The exalted memory of the words led to D'Un Journal D'Amour a mini-cantata for Voice and Viola offered as a wedding gift to soprano Eliette Prévôt and violist Antoine Tamestit who premiered it together in Montreuil in 2010.
