German baroque composer Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767) was a self-taught multi-instrumentalist becoming a composer against his family's wishes. However his musical career saw him hold important positions and to this day he remains a major composer. His sublime 12 Fantasies for Flute is superbly arranged for Recorder by Jean-Claude Veilhan . Telemann composed his 12 Fantasies for solo Flute in 1732-33 in Hamburg. During this time he composed a wealth of solo instrumental music including those for Harpsichord and Violin. Veilhan's arrangement for Recorder of Telemann 's 12 Fantasies includes adaptions for the instrument such as key signatures and performance directions. Vailhan's rearrangement for the Recorder of Telemann 's popular 12 Fantasies makes the popular genre more accessible and versatile.

Cellist conductor composer and musicologist René Berthelot (1903-1999) was influential in leading the Orleans Conservatory to obtain a high profile reputation. An enchanted dream - poet Charles Van Leberghe's words give us an idea of the audience's enthusiasm at the Prince of Wales Theatre in Piccadilly on June 21st 1898 when the first English language performance of Symbolist play Pelléas et Mélisande by Maurice Maeterlinck was performed with incidental music by Gabriel Fauré . The composer had tasked his favourite student Charles Koechlin with orchestratingthe score. The London theatre's small number of musicians suited the apprentice musician's ideals of clarity and transparency. It was 1936 before Koechlin returned to La Chanson de Mélisande this time to create a version with orchestra published the following year as a Piano-Vocal score. Using autograph manuscripts Roger Nichols and Otfrid Nies have created a new edition of the Piano-Vocal reduction that includes the text of the melody in English French and German. The score contains the 1898 and 1936 variations as well as an informative preface by Otfrid Nies.

Variations Sur Un Thème Dans Le Style Ancien by Carlos Salzedo is the third and final work of a series called Three pieces for solo pedal Harp. Difficult to play it is rated 8° and requires good mastering of the instrument and of its technique including the pedals. Using the full range of the instrument this work features numerous trills glissandos and accidentals among other technicalities and is divided between really fast and more quiet parts.
