Italian/English. Falstaff a lyric comedy in three acts is based on Shakespeare's 'The Merry Wives Of Windsor' and passages from 'Henry IV'. It was both Verdi's last opera and his his first comic opera in over fifty years; it has always retainedits place as o0ne of the finest operas ever written. The libretto was by Arrigo Boito and this edition contains both the original text and an English translation by Walter Ducloux. Also includes a synopsis of the plot and ahistorical note on the opera and composer.

French/English. Translated by Ducloux. Saint-Saens originally began work on Samson and Delilah as an oratorio until persuaded by his librettest Ferdinand Lemaire to write it as an opera. The work is a synthesis of Wagnerian drama and French and Italian operatic forms containing skillful structures and eloquent melodies. As one of the brightest jewels of French opera the work is considered 'a dream of antique purity and modern orchestral experimentation ' which thoroughly demonstrates Saint-Saëns' compositional capabilities. Score and Parts- Wallingford Riegger (1885-1961) was an American cellist and composer who is noted as being one of the principle proponents of Serialism and the twelve-tone technique in America. His Concerto (Op. 53) was commissioned in 1953 by the Koussevitzky Music Foundation and first performed at the Library of Congress. It is scored for Piano and Wind Quintet - Flute Oboe Clarinet Horn and Bassoon - and is comprised of three movements: Allegro - Andante - Allegro Molto . Receiving critical acclaim as soon as it was released the Concerto cleverly blends atonal and diatonic elements creating an animated condensed modern work thathas unfairly fallen out of the repertoire.

English Only. Tchaikovsky wrote Eugene Onegin in 1878 using a libretto by Konstantin Shilovsky based on the epic poem by Pushkin. Flirtatious Olga and shy bookish Tatyana are sisters Olga being happily engaged to Lenski. One dayLenski arrives with a friend Eugene Onegin and Tatyana is smitten. She writes him a letter but he rudely rebuffs her and she is devastated. At the dance that night he dances with Olga making Lenski jealous also. They fight aduel in which Lenski is killed. Six years later Tatyana has become a beauty and married Prince Gremin unbeknownst to Onegin who has become a wanderer. Onegin enters Gremin’s house for a party sees Tatyana falls in love andpleads with her to come with him but Tatyana though confessing she still loves him refuses him – she is married. Onegin is left alone and heartbroken.

It is set in a totalitarian state in which John Sorel is a political dissident fighting for a democratic government. The secret police force himto leave the country and Magda his wife must obtain a visa to leave the country and join him. Insurmountable bureaucracy causes frustrating delays at the consulate. During the ensuing months Magda's baby and mother-in-law dieand she learns that her husband is returning to take Magda with him. Magda knowing that her husband will be captured if he returns writes a note to him stating that she is going to kill herself so he does not need to die. As shecommits suicide by gas inhalation in her home John enters the consulate and is apprehended by the police. The Libretto (by Menotti himself) is in English only.
