It was to her teacher Henri Busser professor of counterpoint at the Conservatoire de Paris that young composer and organist Henriette Roget (1910-1992) dedicated in 1934 the Four French Ballads composed to the poetry of Paul Fort (1872-1960). Nicknamed the northern cicada by Mistral this friend of Verlaine Mallarmé and Apollinaire began his career as a symbolist playwright at the Théâtre des Arts before deciding to focus exclusively on poetry. His French Ballads mingled popular feeling creative fantasy and rhythmic elasticity - an alliance that would inspire musicians as diverse asHonegger Caplet and Brassens. Roget detested works of bravura and bombastic grandiloquence; Paul Fort 's verse provided fertile material for her inclination toward sincerity spontaneity and unembellished lyricism. In Le Bonheur Il nous faut aimer sur terre Si le bon dieu l'avait voulu and Le Diable dans la nuit the music translates the beating of hearts and the vibrations of light with a delicacy and a naturalness that brush the very depths of the soul. Through each of these pure crystals a precious gift shines: the art of suggestion. I. Le Bonheur II. Il nous faut aimer sur terre III. Si le bon dieu l'avait voulu IV. Le Diable dans la nuit

The composer wrote for a variety of instrumentations and his works remain popular to this day Aria for Flute (or Oboe) Clarinet and Piano being no exception. Composed in 1927 and revised in 1930 Aria is suitable for advanced level woodwind players. Ibert was a unique composer who did not associate himself with any particular style. His music is generally lighthearted often reflecting the composer's wit and humour. Containing a variety of musical aspects and techniques and beingsignificantly very rhythmic Ibert 's woodwind duet Aria is an exciting addition to the advanced Flute Oboe and Clarinet repertoire.

Gabriel Grovlez (1879-1944) studied under Gabriel Fauré at the Paris Conservatoire. His compositions proved to be extremely versatile from Operas and Ballets to solo works. Grovlez 's Sarabande et Allegro is a sublime addition to the Alto Saxophone repertoire. Many of the composer's works show neo-classical features which is also the case in Sarabande et Allegro where the texture is predominantly melody-dominated homophony perfect cadences are frequently heard and modulations to related keys occur. Grovlez 's F minor Sarabande is in a steady triple meter superbly contrasted by the fast Allegro composed in the relative major. All these features make for a thoroughlyenjoyable and delightful performance! Gabriel Grovlez (1879-1944) studied under Gabriel Fauré at the Paris Conservatoire. Son of a military bandleader Xavier Leroux (1863-1919) was a French composer who studied at the Paris Conservatoire under Jules Massenet and Théodore Dubois. Although primarily known for his Operas Leroux 's Deux Romances for Flute and Piano remain prominent in the instrument's repertoire. Dedicated to Philippe Gaubert the first Romance is composed in A minor. Characteristics are typical of the French romantic era such as semiquaver flourishes use of the sultry lower register of the Flute variations in articulation much use of performance directions and chromaticisms among otheraspects. For all aspiring advanced flautists Leroux 's Deux Romances make for a sublime addition to the repertoire.
