This song reappeared as the basis of a set of variations for the fourth movement of the renowned Trout Quintet so-named as a reference to the title of the song. Robert van Beringen used the lively theme for The Trout Fantasy which he has written for a five-part flute ensemble.

Jacob de Haan arranged four Christmas carols in the suite Four Shepherd Songs . In the four-part instrumentation creating the possibility to play the piece with a large number of varied strengths he successively arranged Als ich bei meinen Schafen wacht Inmitten der Nacht Kommet ihr Hirten and Ihr Hirten erwacht . The arrangement was skillfully replenished with suitable percussion instruments. All of the carols can be performed with a choir (German text). Four Shepherd Songs beautifully enriches the Christmas repertoire.
