Moved by the horrific Orlando night club shooting in June of 2016 Ellingboe set this poem to music as an outpouring of grief yet also of hope that all is not lost and that indeed This Is A Good World. The Kenneth Patchen poem was written and published during some of the darkest days of the Second World War. It reminds us that war will not last and though some do go mad God will not forget us.

Set of Parts-For Electric Violin Amplified Piano and Percussion. Paul Schoenfield is best known as a pianist and his performing credentials are certainly evident here in the highly idiomatic writing for all instruments. This 1980 piece for amplified Violin and Piano with optional Percussiondraws on the styles of Jazz blues and country diddling blending them and surrounding them with Ivesian dissonances in the Piano. Schoenfield notates the freedoms of the popular style with scrupulous accuracy - occasionalmarkings include 'out of tune' and '1/6-tone flat'. Such rousing music is a sure indication that the accompanied violin genre is not losing its vitality in America. Any (or all!) of these Three Country Fiddle Pieces would make astunning encore.

VOCALISE OP. 34 NO. 14 is a song by Sergei Rachmaninov published in 1912 as the last of his FOURTEEN SONGS Op. 34. Written for voice (soprano or tenor) with piano accompaniment it contains no words but is sung using any one vowel (of the singer’schoosing). Rachmaninov's Vocalise is one of the few members of an elite repertory niche: popular non- avant-garde vocal works without text. It was dedicated to Antonina Nezhdanova who can be presumed to have possessed a singularly pleasingand flexible voice given the sustained almost violin-like character of the piece. The piece has also been arranged for orchestra piano various chamber ensembles and solo string instruments but this is the original song forHigh Voice and Piano.
