Élaborée par Jan de Haan l’émission faisait découvrir aux téléspectateurs à travers un lieu ou une région particulière la grande diversité de la pratique musicale aux Pays-Bas. S’inspirant de ce programme couronné de succès Jan de Haan a rassemblé dans cette pièce en cinq mouvements courts (thème - boléro - rondo - intermezzo - thème) quelques-uns des plus grands moments musicaux.

from L'Arlesienne Suite No. 2-This famous Farandole is from the Suite for Orchestra No.2 published in 1879 four years after the death of Bizet. Bizet drew his inspiration for Farandole whilst soaking up the sun and traditions of the Provence region of France. Four Sketches for Band consists of four short movements with varied character which depict the atmosphere of an old fashion fairground. The melodies are delightfully entertaining yet have a simple rhythmic structure. The instrumentation of this composition is perfect for bands without a full contingent of players. Each movement of this composition can be used as stand-alone concert item.

Les Trois Mousquetaires- Les Trois Mousquetaires (The Three Musketeers) was commissioned by the Miraphone company for the Miraphone Tuba Quartett and the Musique des Gardiens de la Paix (Paris France). It was premièred in Guebwiller (France) on 28 June 2003 by its dedicatees.Even if you have never read a line of the mythical novel The Three Musketeers (1844) by Alexandre Dumas father you will at least have heard of the “four invincibles”; four extraordinary names - D’Artagnan Athos Porthos and Aramis - and one unique motto “All for one and one for all.” The musical texture of Les Trois Mousquetaires is focused on specific elements of a character’s personality rather thanon its influence on the book's plot. Maxime Aulio has largely turned his attention on D’Artagnan the sensitive romantic and perfect gentleman who is easily charmed by women such as the gentle Constance Bonacieux and the perfidious Milady de Winter whose beguiling beauty seduced him. The first movement - D’Artagnan - is true to the character of the young provincial noble of the Gascony region: heroic and enthusiastic in all circumstances. The second movement entitled Constance Bonacieux is romantic delicate and passionate. The third and last movement is as duplicitous as the bewitching femme fatale its reveals: Milady de Winter .

Barocco est une pièce majestueuse et lyrique aux sonorités amples et rondes. Composée dans un style quasi baroque cette œuvre empreinte de sérénité exploite la générosité et la finesse de la palette sonore de l’orchestre.

for optional Soprano and Concert Band-En 1880 Antonín Dvorák compose un cycle de mélodies inspirées par la vie rurale auquel il donne le titre de Mélodies tziganes Op. 55. Als die alte Mutter (Songs My Mother Taught Me - Chansons que ma mère me chantait) est le quatrième des sept chants du cycle. Cette mélodie profonde et émouvante souligne toutes les inflexions du poème en langue allemande du célèbre poète tchèque Adolf Heyduk. Plusieurs générations de brillantes sopranos dont Nellie Melba Joan Sutherland et Renée Fleming ont interprété et enregistré cette mélodie si bien qu’elle est connue d’un large public.Cette édition combine deux versions : une version purement instrumentale et uneadaptation pour Soprano solo et Orchestre d’Harmonie. Les deux versions ont été réalisées par Tohru Takahashi.

‘Martenizza’ is the Bulgarian word for the month March. This work describes an old custom in Bulgaria introduced to the composer was through Ivo Stoykov a Bulgarian acquaintance. In accordance with tradition good friends give each other a number of white and red pennants on the 1st of March. When a stork has been spotted for the first time in March the pennants are hung in a tree and one can make a wish. According to the custom friends wish each other health and happiness for the coming year.

In this sparkling composition Harm Evers lets the trumpet section show off their style and versatility. Blow The Trumpets opens with an exciting passage that gives the trumpeters’ tonguing free rein. This is then contrasted with the melodic and somewhat bluesy character of the interlude

Since their formation in the early 1980s they have had 38 top 40 hits in the UK and are still often in the charts today. This highly inventive duo owes their long-term career to the ability to bridge melodic pop and dance music with intelligence and style. Go West was one of their hits from 1993 and this arrangement by Ron Sebregts retains all the splendor of the original. A fantastic pop arrangement which will have all your audience dancing in the aisles.

Naohiro Iwai the master of entertaining concert band arrangements has selected four songs from the wide repertoire of George Gershwin for this wonderful medley. A fitting tribute to one of the all time jazz masters.

Let the Earth Now Praise the Lord-The well-known chorale Nun komm der Heiden Heiland ( Let the Earth Now Praise the Lord ) was written by Martin Luther in 1524 and derives from a translation of a hymn from the 4th century before Christ. The melody was composed by Johann Walter however Johann Sebastian Bach used it as a basis for many cantatas. This arrangement by Jacob de Haan gives your band the chance to perform an attractive version of this beautiful chorale.
