Festival Overture-The piece was commissioned by Shobi College of Music (Tokyo Japan) for their entrance ceremony for freshman students in 2010 premiered by Shobi Ceremonial Wind Orchestra (Hirohisa Takanashi conductor).In the introduction woodwinds and euphonium play a solemn passage followed by a brilliant fanfare in brass and percussion. After the heart-warming middle section banda trumpets and trombones play a polyphonic passage which leads to a grand andmagnificent finale to conclude the work. This is a short but solemn and impressive piece that suits any kind of festival ceremony and concert.

The first grand parade at Winter’s end led by the trumpets... The composer Pascal Proust has many years’ experience as a musician and music teacher. His output includes several hundred compositions for the most diverse instrumentations. He wrote Spring Parade for trumpet players at the level ofapproximately one year’s study and paid special attention to an easy-to-follow attractive musical style. As a result Spring Parade is an ideal performance or competition work for young musicians.

The Gospel Mass -a mass for mixed choir combo and concert band-is based on the gospel music that has spread throughout the world since its creation in America. After Missa Brevis and Missa Katharina this is the third mass fromthe pen of Jacob de Haan. The movements of the mass ordinary as we know it have now been composed in various pop styles that have their origin in the gospel music. We hear then not only the classic American gospel style (including thecharacteristic clapping and swing rhythms) but also freer gospel styles that have developed over the course of time. The Credo for example is a ballad with rock and funk influences. The Agnus Dei is heard as a slow blues-a genreclosely linked to gospel music. The unique feature of this work of course is in the combination of all these pop and gospel elements with the Latin liturgy of the Kyrie Gloria Sanctus Benedictus and Agnus Dei which results in abeautiful cohesive whole. As far as we know The Gospel Mass is the only true gospel mass.

Geschichten aus dem Wienerwald (Tales from the Vienna Woods) composed by Johann Strauss II in 1868 is a patriotic masterpiece that praises the beauty of the Vienna Woods. This icon of Viennese music is frequently performed at the New Year’s Concert given by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Geschichten aus dem Wienerwald features the zither a musical instrument native to Austria and its neighbours. If no zither is available a double reed ensemble or saxophone ensemble can be substituted in this band transcription.

Overture for Winds-The city of Caldas da Rainha lies on the west coast of Portugal. The name refers to the thermal baths ( caldas ) as well as to the word for queen ( rainha ). This festive work depicts several beautiful venues of ‘Rainha’ and can beseen as a tribute to the queen Eleanor who founded the settlement at the end of the 15 th Century.

The Geuzen Medal is an annual award given to people or organizations who have found unique ways to further democracy in the world and help eliminate dictatorships racism and discrimination. The original Geuzen fought against Spanish imperialism in Holland during the16th century. During the Second World War a group resisting the Nazis also named themselves De Geuzen. Jan de Haan incorporates Psalm 43 sung by a group of condemned prisoners shortly before their execution in 1943 into Geuzen Medal Fanfare composed for the 25th bestowal of this special award.

Cherubini made his Paris debut with Démophon which premiered in 1788. Tohru Takahashi has arranged this dramatic overture for concert band with specific parts for oboe bassoon and saxophone among others. However since the important parts are also included as cues in the score it can be adapted to a more limited instrumentation.

for Soprano Solo and Concert band- Odelettes is the title of a cycle of poems by the 19th-century French writer Gérard de Neval. In his work Trois Odelettes Jacob de Haan set three of de Neval’s poems to music for soprano voice and concert band: Une Allée du Luxembourg describes a fleeting moment of love; Espagne is a typically sounding ode to Spain; and Chanson Gothique describes the joy of life itself.

Italian composer and arranger Lorenzo Bocci fell in love with the delightful melody and created an arrangement that will be perfect at any Christmas concert or event.

An Epic Tone Poem based on Taiwanese Traditional Melodies-Satoshi Yagisawa’s often-dramatic concert band works are not only played in his homeland of Japan but also throughout Asia and further a_x001F_field. The commission for this work in fact came from Taiwan upon which Yagisawa drew inspiration from the traditional hunting songs of the Taroko a people native to Eastern Taiwan.

Right from Toto’s foundation in 1977 the band grew into a living legend not only because of international superhits but also because of the ongoing urge of its members to develop their special musical style - a mix of rock and a more symphonic sound. This arrangement binds adaptations of Africa Rosanna and Stop Loving You into a glorious whole reminding us of those glory days of Toto hits.
